I'm making this post to touch the super old problem of walls being bad as defence structure! Its strange that they dont get normall rework for long years and are outclassed by skeletons, trees, statues and other objects bruh! There is nothing hard to solve it come on.....!

Here are suggestions about walls rework:

1) Buff walls HP by trice x3 (considering how fast player hits targets due to high attack rate ~0.3 hitspeed) - this change will buff walls survivabillity against animals and especially against players! or reduce hitspeed of all characters with combat rework idk 😕 (dredstone wall for me personally is failure but anyway - give dreadstone wall a slow regeneration like dreadstone armour)

2) (IMPOTANT) Give abillity to build high tier walls on top of low tier walls to imitate walls upgrade system! For example player would start with hay wall, when  player will unlock wood walls for example - player will make new ones and install them on top of hay wall! This will save lots of players time hammering those hay walls (hammering hay walls with stone hammer kinda cringe)! Also can suggest to add clay resource and Clay wall as another wall type building with HP between Hay wall and Wood wall!

3) Remove damage reduction and hammer protection mechanic for walls - this useless mechanic can be replaced with smth more adequate! OR give abillity to apply this mechanic for all other walls like Hay, Wood, Stone, Scrap and Thulicite! Give Scrap Wall Metallic sound effects!

4) Do something with destroyed wall structure state - rework wall hammering mechanic or remove destroyed wall state at all! There is no problem to craft wall segment in game overall to place it again, so in my personal opinion - destroyed wall state is pointless!

5) Add some sort of gates to close area covered with walls - considering that AI of hostile entities have large search radius which makes them bypass entire wall defence by just walking towards a hole in the base! 

6) Add more defences! Give players normall accessable various turrets for early-middle game stages (global recipes, not only for winona bruh)! Basicly houndius shootius is useless defence due to having expensive recipes and being unlockable only in ruins! What about players who play with caves being off? 

7) Reballance/Rewatch recipes of walls + amount per crafted! In recipes of walls - player doesnt see the amount he will get after crafting - so player sees 2 boards for wood wall segments and loses any interest to use it cause 1 board eats 4 logs to craft! Mark walls amounts in recipes so player could see and reballance their recipes!

Currently this is all for now! If you guys have some ideas about walls - write here i may read them

I think walls were always in a good spot. The only thing I would update about them is the way most mobs refuse to attack them, not to mention the path finding exploits.

If only they were as good as u saying :(,  Currently their functionality in only caging animals and caging boss minions (while normally they must be main defence item)! Also they can be destroyed very quickly by mobs and players! Some of walls expensive recipes like wood wall makes them even useless to craft! But i agre with you, mobs pathfindings need to be rewatched!
