With this new beta and dlc bringing in the opportunity to use differing ingredients in many different food recipes, there comes a question about whether or not the various recipes should respect the sheer amount of an ingredient it adds to a recipe or the food value an individual ingredient is worth. For some recipes, like that of the veggie poppers, the calorie density of the ingredient doesn't change between any of its potential ingredients, but for recipes such as fruitcake or mixed berry pie especially, the kcal count of the input and output is not balanced for the alternative recipes.

If alternative recipes could respect calorie count or even a different mass of a different ingredient, this would not be as big of an issue. Adjusting for kcal count as opposed to mass count would make these recipes look less strange, and may open the door to even more alternative recipes in the future. I for one wonder if allowing for tender brisket to be used as a barbeque alternative would be a bad idea.
