Update 1.17.0 (Nintendo Switch - released March 25, 2025)

Don't Starve Together: Walter, Wendy & Wortox Skill Spotlight 
Winter is nearly over but the season of survival never ends, and there's something still waiting under the skill tree for the naughty, and the nice!

Highlights:

  • Walter Skill Tree added.
  • Wendy Skill Tree added.

  • Some beefalo riding QoL changes

Please address some of these issues soon. They're making the switch version incredibly unfun and the frustration carries over into daily life for me and some others I play with.

0. Have some people beta test things before you release on switch. I could help with this. You need someone that does a variety of things and goes through all the bosses and world normally for each time a feature is added. Klei misses so many things whenever adjusting/adding things.

1. You NEED to implement some kind of macro bind for double key input. So that we can have X+A as it's own unique input.  Holding a shoulder button would allow every button to have a new function. e.g. ZL+A. 

The new switch pro controller will have two paddle buttons. This would be a great time to introduce such a change.

2. Apparently walter has an issue where he can't unmount a beefalo while using some charging skill but I'm not sure what this, my friend is playing walter while I do wortox.

3. Everything being B is horrendous. I tried Wortox for the first time and it is such a struggle. Not in a good, fun, or fair way either. When trying to light a tree on fire or mount a beefalo, you accidentally soul hop. 

Yesterday I was being chased by terror beaks in winter with a cold stone at night. I kept trying to light trees and soul hopped instead. I tried to soul hop away from the TB and would light a tree and get hit. Ultimately wasting a lot of time and souls on poor controls.

I try to mount beefalo and I soul hop, over and over, wasting so many souls. In some instances I want to do the mount action to prevent a saddle shake while I move the cursor to food in my inventory and instead soul hop and the saddle is shaken off. 

4. You need some way to adjust lazy explorer and wortox soul hop. This could be something like holding B to allow you to change distance with the joystick, ZR+Right stick, or whatever. Soul hopping seems really stupid as wortox because it's not much faster than running, definitely not faster than beefalo, but also too far to use for aggressive fighting. Ideally you'd be able to adjust the distance while fighting fairly easily.

5. Feeding mounted beefalo is difficult because whenever you have an inspect option available your character prioritizes that. It's really hard to feed them when near grass, saplings, monsters, food, etc.

6. Feeding unmounted beefalo has the same problems, especially when you're bucked off near things like grass and saplings. You have to run away to target the beefalo again. Often resulting in a saddle shake at really bad times.

5 and 6 would be fixed if there was a feed beefalo specific bind.

7. The targeting needs to change so that switch target is useful. When fighting BQ for example, it's really hard to lock onto BQ when you want to. Switch target does nothing. You should be able to switch targets within a specific monster type, or switch to a new type. This would make it easy to correctly target the grumble you want, or switch to BQ.

This also applies to times where you might have 3 crawling and 2 terror beaks. Or when fighting AFW and trying to lock onto woven. Killing a woven as is, will switch the lock to AFW when it should remain on woven. That needs to be fixed as well

8A. Targeting needs to be adjust. When fighting near beefalo, walls in the ruins, etc, the game often wants to lock onto beefalo or walls.

8B. Please just make it so that beefalo and other things, at least beefalo bound to a bell, require force attack to hit. So that you can fight safely near a beefalo.

9. Weather pains no longer dismount you, but almost always prioritize chests, walls and other random things. 

Against AFW they will target clockworks, chests, lazy deserters, beefalo outside the area.

Against Toad they will target moleworms, shadows, and even toad itself before the trees. 

10. Maxwell using books on beefalo also suffers from the B button dilemma often causing him to dismount unintentionally at really bad moments.

11. Having multiple worlds seems to cause performance issues for the host when loading and closing the game.

12. There should be a way to archive worlds or back them up to help mitigate this issue.

13. In my case, I've identified that my unique bug where my game goes to 0 FPS for 2 to 6 seconds seems hardware related and not connection related. I wonder how many others deal with that.

14. Still no way to view someone's switch profile from in game to check if they're stalking you with name changes. Allow klei ID to be see when inspecting a character, and make it so blocked players cannot join any worlds you play in while not host.
