I wouldn't mind if the crock pots required fuel, and maybe even maybe some sort of timing system so that time in the crock pot could dictate what dish comes out.

 

With that being said, the current system is excellent for getting the depth/complexity balance just about right. Balance isn't the worst but could do with some minor tweaks. I'd hesitate to fiddle with it too much.

Well the whole crock system itself is pretty simple  there are checks and values of  items they have specific values. Those values being inorganic meat veggies fruit sweet dairy fish and decoration.  Most of the items in the game have 1 or .5 values with higher values dedicated only to special items

honeycomb 3 sweet

 

I think it would be interesting if there were more dishes that took this into account ala breath of the wild where dishes get some text based on what was used to cook  and that more valuable items at least cooked a better dish so it incentivizes cooking with them. 

I would not want anyone to have to memorize nerfs, so it would only be buffing values or recipes. Changing recipes has only been done to compensate for newly added recipes, so recipes are rarely changed. Making all recipes be at the same level as the most efficient recipes value-wise (not ingredient wise) would be nice. 

I understand why the crockpot values have not been touched since they were added, though. Even as people have said many times before about certain dishes being too powerful and some being poor, it's never been changed. A minor issue is changing the values would make all information given prior about the changed recipes before wrong. So one would infer that the only other option is add more recipes. But... adding more recipes means the player would have to memorize more recipes than the 70+ we have. You could say it's a bit of a catch-22 in that way, but we have a lot of recipes already, so why not add more?  

Theoretically people could find figuring out which recipes are best kind of fun, I suppose, but I have not heard anyone say that yet so.  I would prefer a buff for the worst recipes at the bare minimum.

Even if changing the crockpot system is not done, it still would make for a good mod. I am probably gonna make something that re-imagines the crockpot system. Will be a while til that day comes, though if it does.
