Why do you lot hate for Wilson to have his skill expanded to fit his lore?

Recommended Posts

Real honest question. No, I don't wanna hear ANYTHING about him supposed to be stuck in the 'starter/basic character' role, that's counterproductive and doesn't mean anything.

You see other characters now having more intricate character growth via their skill trees, yet Wilson has to remain being boring BECAUSE OF SUCH SMALL NICHE? Oh please, get out of here if you don't wanna contribute to anything.

I think both can be possible at the same time. Wilson staying the template character (coding wise) and Wilson having story accurate abilities given. It just probably has to stay more limited then for other characters considering his role in coding. But nothing speaks against Wilson getting science-focused ability expansions.

minor tweaks

minor tweaks imply there are problems with his whole tree and that's what everyone practically agree on. end of note.

that's literally just him without the skill tree. You know, the base original DS that remains untouched by his 'rework'. Oh and his only actual 'rework' was that he can now shave his beard according to the stage. I wish you can shave it one by one beard.

For example it would be quite easy for Wilson to have a science-stage-one unlocked from the start option, like Wickerbottom has. After all it was Wilson who came up with most crafting receipts (as far as I remember?)

oh no wicker mains in shambles after Wilson getting her perks, oh wow let's all cry about it /s

I am not sure if this means my idea was bad

But I really /seriously/ think Wilson deserves to share the ability considering wickerbottom and maxwell share an ability too.

I think this is less about poeple hating on Wilson and more about people being scared that if he gets a rework or a major skill tree rework he is going to end up in the same like other characters with insanely overloaded, overpowered kit. Which I don't blame them.

As someone that wants a Wilson rework, I also don't know how I would feel if klei turned him into a -Spam minions and destroy bosses!- type of a character because half of the cast is already doing that.

again, so other characters are fine to get those, yet for him he gotta retain that status quo BS? I call that stupid as hell mindset.

I would fear them doing this too, but there is so much aspect of the wide topic of science that they don't really need to rely on combat much (which is very refreshing since I am a bit (very) sick of the combat focus of DST)

The game itself had been leaning more towards combative skills, that's a given. He literally already have some damage boost when fighting the opposing affinity mobs. What's stopping him to get some explosive potions?

more like Maxwell mooching off Wicker's books

Explosive potions are a tame version that goes together perfectly fine with the torch throw mechanic so that would actually be an exciting "combat" skill (and fit to him destroying an entire lab ^^ and almost himself when experimenting)

I'm sorry about this. I wish Maxwell had negative side effects from "stealing" her books as a cost x_x

Then people may cry less if Wilson had the DESERVED share of knowing science receipts. (or maybe there could be a way to give Wilson access to CRAFTING prototype receipts [Blueprints or I can't remember what they are called atm] for a random(?) science-or-alchemy level receipt at costs instead.

Don't call people stupid for their opinions. It's not nice.

I agree. I already said that I wish we got a Wilson rework and a Skill tree rework.

No please, literaly every skill tree except Wilson's majorly focuses on the combat aspect of the game.

If klei ever decites to do a Wilson rework I hope they never turn Wilson into a combat oriented character and focus on the other aspects of the game such as farming, sailing, basing etc.

farming

wormwood at the corner already fulfilling such niche

basing

we already have enough people yapping over Wilsons being useless at base, we don't need another reason for people to continue mocking him

god knows how many people been mocking about his torch tree

This is like lighting a firecracker and claiming it's a stick of dynamite to get people to run away.

surprise, surprise; everything about his skill tree anguished me. so yes, that exaggeration is pretty much in line.

Long story short, I just love playing Wilson because I don't have to keep reminding myself what kind of specific stuff I have to do or resources I need to rush. Playing him is just so carefree.

His perks not really considered as powerful, but they are just so darn convenient. I am happy to have Wilson stay in this simple, plain and easy to understand form while still being convenient enough.

I don't know. I really adore thinking about Wilson being expanded or getting more unique little aspects, but those posts here more and more sounds painfully agressive. So much I fear it will not just chase me away but also other users who love Wilson and would like to contribute with their ideas.

(but then the WILSON NO CHANGE(!!!) threads also have a kind of agressive tone :wilson_dead: so I fear it's just community "sickness" to hiss and groal at everything)

First of all: could you please stop being relentlessly rude to people in every single one of your posts.

Second: I don't hate the idea of his skills fitting his lore in some way. But his lore is that he's an insecure college drop-out who, despite presenting himself and wanting to become a great scientist, is not actually that great a scientist. He's determined and resourceful, or else he wouldn't get through adventure mode, but that doesn't mean that by rule of lore he has to be a great doctor or anything. His skill tree already involves his lore by including alchemy.

This is exactly how i feel when playing him, and about him as a whole.

Nowdays, the other characters can be so overstimulating... for example Walter and his ammo and slingshot stuff... Wickerbottom and her many books... pretty much every character has something like this to think and plan about, since choosing these characters means you intend to try use their perks. Wilson kinda kept me into the game because i often dislike all this character overstimulation. Wortox is probably the best designed since he offers a new playstyle and experience without being too overstimulating.
