I’ve played a few times on Klei’s official servers (the lag was terrible, making it quite painful, so I stopped going there). The overall atmosphere there feels quite different from the style of "Fast Food" servers. If you’re interested in trying out Chinese "Fast Food" servers, you can search using the keyword "快餐". However, I’m not sure what your native language is. If you're not familiar with the Chinese Don't Starve community (especially some of the colloquial terms), communicating with teammates can be quite challenging. The latency on servers from different countries might be quite high. Thanks for educating us about this. Would try it sometime as I dont mind lag as much, but id probably need a reference for these colloquial terms. However, if you really want to experience the fast-food gameplay, I would suggest finding a public server in your region (preferably set to Autumn Day 1). It would be even better if you could invite some friends to join you. At the start, communicate and agree with the other players on the server about the gameplay goals, character selection, team roles, and then proceed according to your own pace. One reason is that the Chinese community has too many slang terms, and I can't quickly compile them all. I feel that even large language models like Deepseek might struggle to translate them accurately. For example, here are some common nicknames for characters: Spoiler Willow - Fire Girl Wolfgang - Mr.Gang / Big Head Wickerbottom - Old Granny / Prison Granny ("old" and "prison" pronounced similarly in Chinese, often used humorously to describe her team-oriented gameplay, which might offer a poor individual experience) Wigfrid - Valkyrie Winona - Worker Woman Warly - Chef Wortox - Demon / Imp Wormwood - Plant Person (emphasizing his plant-like nature, though "plant person" in Chinese can also refer to a medical "vegetative state," which can cause confusion) Wurt - Fish Girl On the other hand, some fast-food servers have a bad reputation in the Chinese community. Just the other day, I saw a post on Baidu Tieba criticizing the "Noob Club / 萌新俱乐部" server for cliquish behavior, pressuring teammates, and excluding new players. Generally, the success rate of defeating the Celestial Champion is higher in "Noob Club," and the server also has mods that enhance ruins and bosses. However, the overall atmosphere there is too tense, and I don’t like that. Personally, I prefer the "Jinshi / 锦时" fast-paced servers, which I feel have a better reputation in the community due to their friendliness toward newcomers. Although the success rate of beating the Celestial Champion might be lower in "Jinshi," I enjoy the more welcoming atmosphere there. And yeah, I suppose it's hard to avoid the less favorably behaved groups. I'm not one to believe that a game has to be taken all that seriously, it's both a learning /growing experience and a way to relax. I'm not a newcomer to the idea of rushing CC by any means; The way I approach rushing CC is more specific, I like the variety that something like this would provide to the gameplay loop of pubs though. Is there a version of this that does both FW and CC before Winter? Ruins for the most part is unnecessary to me. Wilson and Dragonfly (which is probably best defeated with two people timewise) gives you the irridescent gem. The chair blueprint is nice but not neccesary for pearl's tasks. Wickerbottom's book makes fish hunting easy, CK's fight is not much different if you're using grass rafts and the panflute, and a single purple staff used on Day 4 can do the job for rain as well if you are going to do it without mods. Without Wickerbottom, Wolfgang and maybe Wortox, though, there's a clear argument for ruins. as It does make runs more consistent, but it can be skipped as long as there's a Wilson. In fast food servers, there isn't a strict requirement on whether to go only for CC or to include AFW as well. This is usually decided during the start of the game by discussing with teammates or based on the overall progress speed of the session. If there's still plenty of time and energy left after completing CC, players typically proceed to tackle AFW. However, if finishing CC coincides with real-life meal times, bedtime, or if everyone is exhausted, FW is often skipped. 2 hours ago, oregu said: Ruins for the most part is unnecessary to me. Thank you for sharing your strategy! Although I sometimes conflate "fast food servers" with "speedrunning," I feel there are nuanced differences between the two. Fast food servers do pursue speed like speedrunning, but speed isn't the sole objective. Enjoying as much of the game's content as possible and experiencing the fun of teamwork are also goals of fast food servers. Experienced Ruins teams often clear out the entire Ruins (though this isn't strictly necessary from a speedrunning perspective) because they enjoy the process and want to provide teammates with as many resources and gear from the Ruins as possible (e.g., ensuring everyone on the server has a Star Caller's Staff). When I’m part of the base-building team, I also strive for both practicality and aesthetics. At most, I’ve built 16 crock pots, and I try to balance functionality and speed while enhancing the base’s visual appeal, even opting for pastoral-style layouts occasionally (though I still have much to learn about aesthetics). My goal is to provide teammates with the best base experience possible. However, the most important thing is that everyone has fun. What I've mentioned here is just a reference—adapt it according to your own playstyle and the rhythm of your team! What I've mentioned here is just a reference—adapt it according to your own playstyle and the rhythm of your team! Thanks for providing more perspective on the reasoning behind these things. When you put it like that, it makes more sense. That sounds more like what I used to do; Doing things quickly with a nuance of aesthetic and ease for other players. I think the best I did clearing ruins on a pub entirely was Day 11 as Wigfrid. Not cause I expected anyone to use all the loot, but I did it cause I could. It was an average-sized ruins, but it was not split as much so that's why it was so fast. I even optomized it by only eating monstermeat I got from pseudoscience station drops and depth worms. Speedrunning is fun in it's own right, but it's a lot more dangerous for both yourself and other players. When you don't have a lot of time for attempts, may as well set things up where it would be difficult to fail. In contrast, Chinese public servers mostly have Global Positions installed and use it along with the local mod States Announcement for communication. I think the overall effect is quite similar to what you described. Given the specific goals and context of this fast food gameplay, I still prefer a more structured division of roles, as it fosters a stronger sense of team cohesion and enhances communication efficiency especially when playing with strangers. This approach minimizes redundant efforts and ensures that the entire team has fun together. I find the thrill of exploration to be completely absent in servers with global positions (unless you are playing shipwrecked together, where the map is simply huge) Every experienced player I play on pubs prefers servers without global positions because it is very F U N to discover the map. The early game in DST is super fun. With global positions you are literally multiplying your map exploration speed by 10x... (if there are 10 players on the server) So that is 10x less fun from the exploration process Not only that, the ability to communicate well with your team is also a skill I am less of a fan of Environment Pinger mod however, but many people seem to use it. I feel that after becoming familiar with the terrain in DST, exploring the land, especially the areas that my teammates have already traversed, doesn't bring me a sense of novelty or enjoyment. Instead, the inability to promptly determine the base location and the cumbersome communication about positions can negatively impact my gaming experience. Besides the base-building group, Global Positions also has a significant impact on communication effectiveness of the Pearl Group and the Ruins Group. In the fast-food server, if there are 10 players on the server, I find that Global Positions reduce the hassle, boredom, and instability of exploring the map to one-tenth of what it used to be. If I truly wanted to enjoy the fun of exploring the map, I wouldn't play on a fast food server, but rather choose other types of servers or play solo on a single-player server. With the help of Global Positions, the map is explored collectively by the entire team, rather than relying on individual efforts to discover new terrain. This aligns perfectly with the playstyle of fast food servers. The ability to communicate with a team is a skill, and to maximize this skill, I need the best tools to assist me in conveying my intentions. Global Positions and Status Announcement are tools that allow me to fully utilize my team communication skills and provide a better gaming experience. Yifei_
建家组实际游戏过程分享 / Sharing of the Actual Gameplay Process of the Base-Building Group 这是我之前在一个叫“锦时”的快餐档里玩薇克巴顿的过程。“锦时”的快餐档整体氛围轻松且对新手友好,我经常去那里玩。我玩的是薇克巴顿,这一局开局的时候建家组没有麦斯威尔,并且沃姆伍德是一位新手没有解锁技能点,整个建家的任务主要是我一个人承担的。 This is my experience playing as Wickerbottom in a Fast Food server called "Jinshi." The overall atmosphere of the "Jinshi" Fast Food server is relaxed and newbie-friendly, and I often play there. I played as Wickerbottom in this round. At the start of the game, the Base-Building Group didn’t have a Maxwell, and the Wormwood player was a beginner without unlocked skill points. As a result, I took on most of the base-building responsibilities. Wickerbottom has a technological advantage. The first tool I made was a shovel, and I also crafted a backpack along the way. This allowed me to explore the map while transplanting resources on the first day, saving a lot of time. 用于前期的胡萝卜、木板与金块(由兔绒和猪王交易得到) Since there was no Maxwell and Wormwood was a beginner, I spent more time gathering resources. These included: 1. 40 grass tufts and 40 saplings (for the transplanting area). 2. 80 pieces of charcoal (for the cooking area). 3. 40 reeds (for crafting Horticulture Abridged, Applied Silviculture, The Everything Encyclopedia, bookshelf, and birdcage). 4. Carrots, boards, and gold nuggets (obtained by trading rabbit fur with the Pig King) for the early game. At the same time, I’d like to briefly share my method for choosing a base location in Fast Food servers. There are four mandatory conditions that must be met: The base must not be in a meteor area. The base must be near the ocean. The base must be near a pond (but not too close). The base must be near a cave entrance (but not too close). After meeting these four conditions, the final decision on the base location is made based on the positions of key landmarks and wormholes. A small tip for fertilizing the transplanting area: Bring a Beefalo. Since saplings don’t need fertilization, you can quickly use Applied Silviculture to gather a large number of twigs. Then, cook four batches of steamed twigs, feed the Beefalo until it’s full, and then keep feeding it twigs. At this point, the Beefalo will start producing a lot of rots, which can be used to fertilize grass, stone fruits, and other plants. Honestly, the Beefalo’s stomach is incredibly strong. For me, base layout is the most interesting part of playing as Wickerbottom. The layout usually consists of three parts: the tech area, the cooking area, and the transplanting area. The cooking area is the heart of the base. After all, the game is called Don’t Starve Together. The core elements of the cooking area include crock pots, iceboxes, a birdcage, and a fire pit. Personally, I also like to build a tent in the cooking area. Additionally, I usually advise my Wormwood teammate to plant crops near the cooking area, as it makes it easier for teammates to utilize the birdcage. The most important parts of the tech area are the Alchemy Engine, the Think Tank, and the Shadow Manipulator. The Alchemy Engine should be built as quickly as possible to assist teammates. The Shadow Manipulator can be crafted by skipping the rabbit-catching step using The Everything Encyclopedia. At the same time, the tech area usually also serves as a storage area. Since a naturally generated cobblestone road runs through the base, I used this road as a boundary to divide the tech area and the transplanting area. The transplanting area includes basic crops, Lunar Island crops, and Monkey Island crops. The turf was brought back by Woodie from the Lunar Island. My teammate even managed to get a waterlogged tree. Additionally, the bookshelf is usually built near the transplanting area for easy access when using books to gather resources. Throughout the base-building process, I strive to achieve aesthetic appeal. However, resources are limited in Fast Food servers, and I can’t sacrifice practicality for aesthetics. Moreover, I still have a lot to learn about "base beautification." I often study other players' base designs to find inspiration and then try them out in a Fast Food server. This process brings me a lot of satisfaction and is the main reason I enjoy playing as Wickerbottom so much. Yifei_
In this game, I chose Wilson as my character, and at the start, I was the only one in the Ruins Group. Therefore, I had to handle both clearing the ruins and completing the Archives tasks. My skill point allocation is shown in the image below. If you're interested, you could also allocate some points for beard storage and shadow affinity. The underground terrain in this game was exceptionally good: the first cave entrance led directly to the Blue Mushroom Forest, and right after exiting the forest, I encountered the Nightmare Werepig and the ruins. This meant I didn’t waste any time exploring. And there is only one cave monkey residential area. My inventory preparation before entering the ruins is shown in the image below. When playing as Wilson, I don’t aim to fully clear the ruins (due to time and inventory constraints), so I tried to avoid combat as much as possible during the process. I defeated the Ancient Guardian and used the Guardian's Horn to restore my health and hunger. After defeating the Ancient Guardian, a Wolfgang who joined the server midway became part of the Ruins Group. I handed over the remaining tasks of clearing the ruins and defeating the Nightmare Werepig to him, and prepared to head to the Archives. The cave monkeys chased me all the way from the ruins to the Archives. I completed the Archives puzzle, and I have to say, the design of this puzzle is really poor and quite boring. I returned to the surface, coordinated with the Pearl Group and the Base-Building Group, and completed the tasks for the Crab King and the Celestial Storm. Finally, we defeated the Celestial Champion. The skill point allocation for Wortox is shown in the image below, and I also took the opportunity to experience Wortox’s well-designed skill tree. For this run, I used a local mod called "Rain Forecast," which significantly optimized and improved the Pearl process, helping me better plan the timing for delivering the umbrella. In the first two days, I gathered materials on the surface to build the house for the Crab Hermit. I have to say, the Knapsack’s extremely low cost and its dual functionality as a weapon and bug net were incredibly convenient, providing a lot of assistance in catching butterflies, killing spiders, and other tasks. In this marble statue-themed area, I was able to collect both the carpet turf and marble needed for the Pearl tasks. My teammates in the Ruins Group found the entrance to the Blue Mushroom Forest cave, so on the third day, I headed into the caves to obtain the chair blueprint. Before that, I visited the Archives to collect the 10 moon rocks needed for building the house. This time, the ruins’ layout was quite complex. I wandered around several cave monkey residential areas for a while before finally finding the Sacred Area, where I obtained the chair blueprint. After returning to the surface, I regrouped with my Woodie teammate, who provided me with plenty of boards, and key locations such as salt area, the Crab Hermit Island and Lunar Island. 10个任务 / 10 Tasks Spoiler 种花 Planting Flowers 晾干海带 Drying Kelp 送花伞(这一部分的功劳得归功于降雨预报这个模组 Delivering the Flower Umbrella (This part was made much easier thanks to the Rain Forecast mod.) 修房子 Repairing the House 浆果丛(施肥用的是腐烂了的浆果) Berry Bushes (I used rotten berries as fertilizer.) 打捞垃圾 Salvaging Trash 椅子(我忘记带燧石了,用灵魂跳跃到了月岛补了一点燧石) Building the Chair (I forgot to bring 4 flints, so I used soul hopping to go to Lunar Island and gather some more.) Fishing (I even encountered the Malbatross) On day 10 of the world, I successfully obtained the Pearl. I have to say, Wortox’s skill tree is truly amazing, especially in the context of Fast Food servers, elevating the character’s ability to a very high level. Not only does it make completing Pearl tasks much smoother, but it also excels in fast exploration, teleporting teammates, transporting statues, and team healing.
