Wendy's New Quote After Feb 28th Update - Anyone Else Feel It's a Bit Much?

Hey everyone,

I've been playing as Wendy a lot lately, and after the February 28th update, I noticed something small but kinda nagging. Her quote when she can't do something—like trying to pick up seeds that a Pigman already ate and made disappear—changed from "I can't do that" to "I can't do anything right".

Has anyone else picked up on this? I feel like the new line is a bit too negative. It fits Wendy's whole gloomy vibe, sure, but it pops up so often in regular gameplay that it's starting to get me down a little. Like, every time I misclick or something's just out of reach, I get this heavy "I can't do anything right" in her sad voice.

I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking it, but I kinda miss the old "I can't do that" — it was simpler and didn't feel like she was beating herself up all the time.

Anyone else feel the same way? Or am I just too sensitive to Wendy's mopey charm now? Just a small thought I wanted to share.

It has been this way since some time.

”I can’t do that” was a generic quote every single character used for a failed action, even Wes for some time before it was fixed.

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone! Good to know every character got a new quote after the update.

Maybe it's just some nostalgia kicking in for me—I kinda missed the old generic line. I'll probably get used to Wendy's new one after a few days.

I think we should be glad that klei doesnt treat us as dumb childs and gives a real representation of a common mental illness.

The quote isnt only on point with wendy but is what she would say to herself in her situation

That's a pretty fitting quote if you ask me. Besides, she's always had lines with darker undertones than that (Like rope, now that's a classic). Granted, one usually doesn't spend their time inspecting rope.

Well, I have to admit, the whole "Wendy is no sweet summer child" thing really moves me (big hug to Wendy).

It's taking me back to the first time her quotes hit me hard—like when I read her lines about the rope ("That would be the easy way out of this place."), the umbrella ("The clouds weep."), or the tent ("Sleep is but a preview of death.").

Maybe you're right, and I'm just shaken by the art of "I can't do anything right". It really is a kind of art, isn't it?

Wendy's basically a living poem, if you ask me.

I don't think it's more negative that some other quotes. A quote for trying to craft something while lacking ingredients is "I'm always lacking something, aren't I...", and at least for me it has the same energy.

I think some of the darker quotes would be something like rope, or gord's knot ("If only knives solved more of my problems...")

I love this line. It is a common sentiment for people with Major Depressive Disorder. As someone with MDD I regularly feel this way. It is one of the things I love about Wendy.

I find this quote, as well as Winona's to a lesser extent, doesn't quite fit the context of where it appears. A common case comes with lag, where one sends multiple requests to do something that has already been done.

There is no deliberate fourth wall breaking in making it about one's competence.
