i really wish wendy had more non combat perks

i know we're all very tired of wendy suggestions but still i really hope before this skill tree goes live they do this

wendy before her skill tree really had no perks that didnt have to do with combat, literally every part of her revolved around abigail who revolves around combat

and i hoped that before this beta that when wendy gets a skill tree they like tackle this

but rn she kinda doesnt have a lot of them

and idk i kinda feel like thats missed potential, like i feel the sisturn upgrades could be combined into one skill and the put that at the end of a skill line that gives her some interactions with like flowers or something like that, i mean she does study ectoherbology not too much of a stretch she knows her way around flowers

like i feel a skill that lets the different flower crafts like the parasol and the fan be stronger for at least her or last significantly longer would be nice, and then maybe a skill that lets her grow the three types of flowers and weeds on graves so she has some way to gather these things way more easily + so theres now a way for the weeds to be easily obtained for stuff like beefalo treats or the tea crockpot dish

just some stuff that isnt directly just for combat that lets her be more of a team player and gives her some parts of her kit that dont just make her better at shredding everything

i do think her skill tree is nearly perfect, she really just needs stuff that isnt just for combat to be that

I think the issue is that she is inherently a combat character to begin with. I’m not saying that’s an excuse for zero non combat skills, but since Wendy’s entire character revolves around Abigail whose only role is combat it isn’t surprising that she doesn’t get a lot of non combat skills. Personally, I think the flower hat is fine enough for non combat purposes, though I would love for DVG’s sisturn idea to be added.

I do think it's an excuse.

I'm honestly sick of Wendy and Wortox players complaining about no/few utility. When neither characters give utility. Wendy is a combat character, which her skill tree embraces. And Wortox is mainly an explorer and support character, which his skill tree embraces in the nice branch. With the naughty branch being a way to get more and stockpile souls.

I think that’s a fair view to have. I just considered other characters who could be considered combat characters and outside of Wigfrid they generally have one or more perks that are useful outside of combat (Maxwell puppets, Wolfgang insta chop/mine and no speed penalty while carrying things, Wanda group teleport and free revives, woodie’s multiple forms, willow’s various perks outside of Bernie and casting)

that’s why I’m fine with just the flower hat and DVG’s idea, since Wendy generally doesn’t need much outside of combat

I mean bigspooks give you a few unique farms you can build, you have revives, you have very minor perks for building things like an apiary, you can generate gems and gold with corpses (Unless she had the grave loot taken away on burying players.)

Its not utility-free but it is a case where the utility can easily be bypassed just maximizing the amount of combat perks you take.

That's thing, most of that is base kit. And Wolfgang's insta chop/mine is just expanding on the fact that he's the speedrun/easy mode character. He skips tasks, skips downsides of armor, skips needing a way to transport the marble pieces. And ends boss fights in half the time.

Wanda tbf does have several tp stuff as she's kinda like Wolfgang.

And Woodie and Maxwell were always more generalists rather than combat characters. Woodie's weremoose isn't even in DS.

Willow did always have utility application. Pre skill tree and in DS she's more of a utility character than a combat one tbh. So it makes sense that the tree gives her stuff in that department.

Wendy does have minor utility. And that did get expanded on through haunt and the mourning glory line. Which I honestly think is enough. The complaining about more utility skills has gotten annoying tbh. And is spurred on by Walter getting utility skills. Who was like half utility. What Wendy got was enough. DVG's stuff could help too.. but from what I saw like half of the effects they suggested was combat 

Well, there are non-combat aspects to it but they are not that easy to identify, Wendy is one of the best or maybe the best at dealing with hordes of enemies, so it is very easy to get food with her, either from spiders or bees, so from a completely combat-oriented mechanic comes a buff to an aspect other than combat

Now, regarding the skill tree we have to take into account her ability to move graves from one side to the other, if this goes well Wendy could create the best pig farm possible.

She will also be able to revive fallen companions

I really think the problem with the skill tree is that it feels more like a quality of life update rather than an improvement to the character itself.

The flower hat just needs to not exist but the ability to drink potions can be a skill point.

The sisturn can be used to extract flower magic to make extra changes to abby Which is what ectoherbology should be about.


We don't need the lore of "oh the flower hat makes wendy more ghostly which is why she can drink the potions"
Sisturn is bringing abby closer to life Thats why she gets player tag

I kind of hate the lore aspects getting in the way of actual gameplay.

They end up restricting these skills
It would be better for the health of the game just make them easier to access.

itd be hard to make it not about abi or pipspook stuff, since the tree is themed as an ouija board, and her character really does revolve a lot around abigail. the tree's aesthetic would need a whole change to really add other skills if so

I think that only kinda reinforces the idea that the skill tree is about Abigail, not Wendy, and because Abigail is solely combat focused there really isn’t incentive for much utility

yea it is her whole gimmick afterall. ghost and death themed stuff will fit into the tree
