advice fighting cc as walter

Recommended Posts

what would be the best way to take advantage of his slingshot(solo or in combination with other things) while fighting crab king? i have been watching other people play but he seems extra difficult when you dont use mobs but surely there is a decent strat for it?

for clarification this is with his beta-branch not his main-branch, also please NO WENDY TALK. i am only asking about how to do it as walter and i am not asking for people to tell me why i should not play as him.

here's a fight i recently finished, it starts at 1:30:16. ideally you would use any other color gem that doesn't add more grabby claws and shooty turrets, i just didn't want to read. also it seemed like mr krab wasn't hit by the shadow tentacles, so you could just use other high damaging rounds like marble, dreadstone, shockscrap (lol), exploding

I inserted a pearl and only red gems into the king crab. After the crab wakes up, I swim away some distance and start hitting the 2 towers that reach my GRAVY RAFT. I also kill the claws, preferably with moonglass projectiles. After killing all the obstacles, we shoot at the king and after some time he summons ice. As soon as we step on the ice, we need to put the little crabs to sleep using a flute. After putting the little crabs to sleep, we first destroy the ice and then shoot the crab. Then we repeat everything that I wrote earlier. I only used moon glass projectiles, but you can alternate between several projectiles.

would blue gems only be an ok substitution? i wouldnt be able to do anything with freezing anyway so that seems the least dangerous way to do it since it avoids the problem where red gems lets the towers put a hole in the boat?

Use only grass boats.

Then the strength of the ice blocks will be incredibly high and the king crab will have time to recover.

The main thing here is not to rush. It is important to destroy the claws and guns that are in your way.

Maybe it's time we rename DST to "Don't Struggle Together".

Very pessimistic comment I know. But like, come on with what is going on lately.

well to be fair, it's not all sunshine and daisies. only walter can cheese like this and if you're like me, you'll still **** up in some way or another, so not all entirely smooth sailing.

other characters can just drop a 40-60 killer bee bomb (bundled) and be done with the crab fight.

there has definitely been power creep recently, but i feel like most players won't get to that point. but then again, dst is an old game with not many new players, everyone is pretty good at the game now.

i know it is easy to feel discouraged, i am also very tired right now but even so, it is ok sometimes to not choose the hardest path. i am entertaining both cheese and non-cheese methods because they all have merit and on different days they each have value. if you feel really strongly against cheesing could you help me come up with an optimized fight? right now danila is trying to help me find a solid set-up that will work for me ^^ you could too!

I don't quite understand what you're asking me.

any advice on how to minimize the raft moving while i am trying to fight. i struggle with my hands so swapping out to an oar is a slow task for me to do

First you swim away to a distance where you can't be reached, then little by little you swim up to one cannon and destroy it, then you do the same with the other cannon.Of course, you also need to destroy the crab's claws, but the guns are a higher priority target. Don't try to do everything at once, you need to hurry more when he summons the icy surface. When there is no ice surface, the crab does not heal, so you have a lot of time to destroy the crab's guns and claws.

i think i understand. don't try and overdo it at once and don't get close until the turrets are gone

Won't you instantly sink if a tower spawns on your boat? It's kind of risky, from what I've heard.

For the grass boat strat you just plop down a new grass boat every cycle, and ignore the towers. So spawning under you never comes up.

If you do kill towers you're not killing many, so you can guess where respawns pop up.

Even if one somehow spawns under you, just drop another grass raft.

The problem in that instance is that it basically deletes the raft, immediately plunging you into the water.

No reaction possible?

I just never had a tower spawn right under me with the grass rafts. Happens all the time with wooden ones for me.
