Speaking as someone with higher than average hour count (8,000+ hours), I think this would be incredibly unproductive and I don't want people with less hour counts to be treated as if their opinion is worth less

Mentioning your hour count here is slightly ironic.

I wanted to eliminate all claim of merely speaking up because of a possible loss of privilege. I would still be respected if not more so in such a scenario, and even still I think it's a very bad idea.

While I understand the thought behind displaying game duration, I don't think it would necessarily lead to better suggestions or discussions. It risks creating a hierarchy based on playtime, which might not fairly represent a person's ability to contribute valuable ideas.

The forum already provides ways to gauge a user's participation and impact, such as the number of posts they've made and their reputation-to-post ratio. This can give a sense of how much their contributions resonate with others. Additionally, you can see how long someone has been a part of the forum, which is another indicator of their involvement over time.

In my opinion, these existing methods are sufficient. Displaying playtime might unintentionally imply superiority or diminish the voices of those with fewer hours, which I don't think would benefit the community.

I have seen my fair share of "experienced individuals" give bad takes, or even ones that are so biased that they suffer from delusions because they have echo chambered thoughts for too long.

looking at a number would only create a dismissive mentality on the forums and that already is present as it stands, it would only serve to make it worse.

I understand that not everyone is going to be on the same page, some ideas are constructive but this one seems like it would be inadvertently detrimental and unnecessary.

You can mention it if you want. I sometimes mention it. As well as my skill level (perpetual intermediate) since a person could have thousands of hours in the game without being on the level of someone who does challenging things who has the same count.

This has many levels to it that you get a feel for after a while.

  • The people who mostly care about speedrunning
  • The people who care about late-game building/sandbox
  • The people who play solo
  • The people who play with friends
  • The people who play in pubs
  • The people who want to be challenged all the time like they were when they were a newbie, even into the hundreds of days count

None of this is distilled in any set of numbers.

Badges you could pick for yourself that include things like on your list would probably be more handy to display.

Easily show where you're coming from.

Like someone that plays multiplayer only versus someone that only does solo megabasing. They could have such a difference in perspective that they may not even understand where each other are coming from.
