Is this too much slingshot ammo?

Recommended Posts

I'm concerned that the 20-30 ammo crafting might be a bit too much for some of the stronger ammo types. The slingshot makes many combat encounters trivial, but the effort required to farm ammo makes it not the default best option. If you can get 30 cursed/moonglass rounds for one craft it might make a lot of combat essentially "solved" because you'll never run out after getting access to them with little time spent farming them.

For something like marble rounds, a much higher crafting efficiency is probably good because they're quite expensive currently with mediocre damage, and the farming required is a bit much.

If you've been playing the beta what do you think about this in practice? I'm also curious if anyone knows how efficient the cursed rounds are compared to thulecite clubs in terms of resource cost to damage

I think it's fine; the stronger ammos are also typically expensive. Like, even with the 30 craft buff I still don't think Dreadstone rounds are worth making.
Also ammunition has always been annoying for Walter, I think it's fine to let him use his slingshot without needing a treasury's supply of material.

I think the ammo quantity should vary by type.

Lots of ammo makes sense for types that are pure damage dealing since they're replacing melee attacks.

Ammo that isn't going to be spammed (like slowdown rounds, freeze rounds, icky, sticky etc) shouldn't be as cheap.

While I think sticky and poop pellets are fine being dropped with more and more characters requiring gems in their crafts I'm not sure if increasing the amount of gems Walter consumes on average is a good idea.

I'm not saying to make it more expensive for base Walter. I'm saying his skills that give him more ammo should have less of an effect on status rounds.

I know what you're saying but the result is the same no? Again though I'm only particularly concerned about the gem crafts specifically the others are probably fine being lowered.

IDK, I was never of the opinion that base Walter's gem pellet yield was too low.

I feel like this may have mainly been because they were a lot less useful and had less functions as it stands to reach max effectiveness you need to fire slowdown rounds thrice at a target not including any shots you miss and with the thulecite frame making both freeze and slowdown rounds effective against hordes it's now far more usable in day to day situations than they've ever been and it honestly feels really nice being able to.

This is a good point, I was working from my experience with pre-skill tree Walter. However, does that justify them getting triple the ammo? Idk.

Well in single player scenario no but in multiplayer i believe so here's the thing that really has me worried.

Between Walter and Wortox they consume a fair amount of gems just to get started with their perks/skills and while that cost isn't too bad for a single player across multiple people they are consuming a lot of gems and with more and more perks requiring them this issue is only going to get worse I already saw the gem shortages on the beta servers.

Also worth mentioning assuming you're using the max effectiviness of slow down rounds it's still techinically only 10 shots since you'd be using 3 per 30 seconds of the fight your in.

Yeah as someone who mainly plays this game online the gem usage is too massive for a small yield and makes it feel like you are not pulling your own weight when crafting said rounds, those freeze rounds could have been better spent on something like purple gems for other crafts but since you craft 30 freeze rounds per blue gem it just feels perfect, im getting a crap ton of uses from smaller gems and im having fun/being effective while not just consuming all of my team resources, Walter excessive ammo its only really an "issue" (i wouldnt even say issue but whatever) when you play alone since the entire world resources are for yourself only
