Because in my opinion, Merms are not the way to go with followers design wise. Develop him independantly and give him new follower options than straight buffs, or else Webber might be ruined by having busted followers. If the spiders become too strong, it can feel less fun to use. I suggest to develop the idea of turning Webber into different spiders using cookies, some utility with Spiders, and adding new spiders in the world for him. Maybe he could craft spider traps using a new spider as a material that could be found in the world, the dune spider. (Based on trapdoor spiders from real life) Maybe he can be a bit of a mad surgeon, and customise his own spiders, being able to genetically engineer his own spiders. For example, taking parts of a water spider and spitter spider to make an amphibious spitter. However, they will be master of none, so will deal less ranged damage than normal spitters and will move slower in water than striders. Some combinations would be special. For example, combining a shattered spider with a cave spider would make it have damage reflection while in its ball. New spider abilities are not just existing ones, you could add more to your spiders like the ability fo explode on death. They cant really do much in terms of utility with spiders (unless they surprise us) so they forced themselves to repeat. Im am happy for Webber to be completly outclassed by Wurt. I just hope they don't use Wurt's power as a reason to powercreep Webber. In my opinion, spiders should be somewhat comparable to the followers anyone can use. The unique thing about spiders is that they are individual, permanent units you spend resources creating (or much less resources going out to find them yourself, which is a balance i love). Posted December 1, 2024 Share Posted December 1, 2024 I think klei just need to make spider armies less laggy, and about your suggestion i dont agree, webber is supposed to be a combat character, after all the spiders are really aggressive mobs that like to eat anything, they are not good for anything but fighting. In my view spiders are like zergs from starcraft and merms are like protos, In merms army every individual is strong, they even use some tecnology and are smart, with merms is about quality soldiers.. And on the other hand in the spider army every individual is weak, they are brainless eating machines but they come in really big numbers and just like zergs the spiders are the ultimate life form, they can evolve to survive everywhere. While merms were on the verge of extinction(before wurt arrival) the spiders took over the world. So there you go webber doesnt need more quality followers, he needs the spiders armies to cause less lag and maybe some perks to evolve the spiders. When you say that, I’m assuming you mean, don’t use the same scale rather than make him lesser What follower options would you suggest? that would be a good idea, but then you gotta deal with it messing with skins,do you have any other ideas for these new types of spiders? Your idea is wonderful, but first, the impact of a large number of spider armies on the server is devastating. This style of combat will make this character completely disappear in multiplayer mode, and players with low hardware configurations won't even be able to use it in local mode. Secondly, most powerful monsters in Don't Starve Together have high area damage, making it difficult for fragile spiders to compete with increasingly powerful bosses in the future. Lastly, I fully agree with the idea of adding commands, but this will undoubtedly bring a huge workload to Klei. Webber is already very unpopular, he needs a stunning change; otherwise, he might as well be removed. However, we cannot change Wurt, nor can we make Klei remove the skill tree, so we should consider from a realistic perspective how to enable Webber to cope with the high-intensity battles in the next major update. Dr.Webber Posted December 23, 2024 Share Posted December 23, 2024 I was thinking about your idea of making new spiders, and I was thinking I’d merge the idea with another idea I had for making crops into armor for spiders by making new switcher doodles with the crops as the key ingredient So far, I’ve come up with a spider with a built-in scalemail (and maybe they could grab food and cook it) they’re switcherdoodle would cost two monster me and two silk as well as two fire nettles And I think I’ve come up with what spider to base the design of the new spiders on I was thinking basing the design off of the sea strider also, what crops do you think I should use in the switcherdoodle crafts also besides alignment spiders how many different types of spiders should I add?
