A problem with merging lots of skills in one branch (sometimes)

Recommended Posts

It can add too much value to a branch.

For example, in Wormwood when they reworked the farmhand branch (rightfully), they put so much full power skills in each teir. You would get 4 full power skills from it. No steady progressions. Most of the time skills from this branch seem like must haves.

However, this isnt like his other branches. For example, completing his full blooming branch, its mostly just weaker filler stat skills that build up to one useful skill (health regeneration).

This was kinda done with Wendy's elixir branch. She gets a lot of content from it, it normally happens to charaters after their hotfix releases. I am more in favour for spreading some stuff out in general, though it cant be done here i just wanted to point an issue i saw out.

Generally agree with the sentiment skill trees should try to build weaker skills for a valuable final tier, but oddly enough, I don't think that's actually true for Wendy's Potions branch.

It's in a weird position because tier 4 is largely useless (A chance at doubled potions is generally going to just be weaker than doubled mourning glory from Tier 3 Pipspook, especially with the other applications they're going to get), while Tier 3 is largely QOL (Potions rarely use their full duration). Tier 1 is useful, but for Wigfrid it's a standalone skill so that's not too egrigous, while tier 2 is arguably the most useful in the branch (Instantly returning Abi to lvl 3).

Despite that, none of the skills feel more than QOL, as the new potion doesn't restore hp.

Also, I think one skill line being the "focus" having an array of useful (but not broken) Perks is a fine structure, as it burns insight, meaning the choices of how to spend the rest of insight have much more impact.

The reason for continuous merging is that a lot of it is useless to begin with. The continued accumulation of value will seem less embarrassing. In fact, I'd rather they redo it, but unfortunately they clearly don't want to.

There hasn't been "continuous merging" though? the only skills that got merged were the Strong Brew from 3:1. They initially were planning to compress to 2 after a day of beta, which was obviously only in the early stages, as the flower shroud was also removed instead of reworked.

I re-edited, my wording seems inaccurate, I mean the same thing as you

I think the issue with the translation is "continuous" means repeated. "Merging" took place, but since it was only one one skill line it wasn't "continuous merging"
