ArcAngela
Walter's Skill Tree has room for improvement since so many of his skills focus purely on slingshot rounds when the Slingsmith already succeeds at making Walter's slingshot a viable ranged weapon. I honestly believe his skill tree is a little lackluster since it only focuses on his slingshot and his companion, rather than having some perks that further strengthen his theme as the fearless boy scout. So I'd like to suggest some skills related to his identity as a scout for variety... Keep in mind I'm mostly focusing on what the skill does, not where it fits in the skill tree, or what name and stats it should have: First Aid: Learn to craft a healing kit it that restores Health. Details: A cheaper, preferably honey-less alternative to Bandages would offer Walter a reliable healing option that does not replace the Portable Tent and finds its own use in dangerous moments. Thematically fitting and worthwhile for team players. Hiking: Increases the range of map discovery. Crafting maps at the Cartographer's Desk as Walter no longer consumes the Feather Pencil. Details: By "map discovery" I'm referring to the circle around the player that reveals the world map. This perk would be incredibly resourceful for people who like to scout the whole map on Big Woby and sharing their findings with other players. Fitness: Having variety in your diet will grant extra benefits. Details: Similar to Warly's food memory but instead it is a bonus applied to the first time eating anything that hasn't been eaten in the last few days. It also synergizes with his campfire cooking, even if mildly. Fire Safety: Campfires built by water will no longer burn nearby things. Walter no longer loses health when putting out smoldering objects. Learn to craft a gravel path turf that prevents the spread of fires and wildfires. Details: A scout should know how to best prevent forest fires, this perk stays true to his design and offers a non-boss alternative to Scaled Flooring that I'm sure all skill ranges would appreciate. Projectile Pouch: Learn to craft an ammo pouch for storing Walter's munitions. Details: Similarly to Wigfrid's Canister, only accepts rounds, can be opened from the inventory or accessed from the ground, it could also allow for higher stack sizes. You could tie this to Projectile Pro and make it so any skill unlocked under that category is required for this Pouch unlock. Woby Training: Rescue When Small Woby has a Telltale Heart/Life-Giving Amulet in her storage, she will seek out dead players to revive them (including Walter). Details: Pretty straightforward but could also be tied to First Aid, you don't want Woby running off? don't store a Telltale Heart. In every situation you would you'd be already doing it with the intent of being able to help other players. Woby will return if the ghost is unreachable (over water). Bravery: Pinetree Pioneer Hat reduces/completely nullifies sanity damage taken. Details: pioneer hat will never be better than armor when tanking hits and thus this hat serves very little practical use, even if twice the amount of damage taken ends up going to your sanity, taking an unarmored hit is still much worse. This would give it more practical use. i.e: currently, 20 damage from a spider with a football helmet ends up with 4 to health and 8 to sanity as opposed to 20 health 20 sanity. Bravery II: Pinetree Pioneer Hat will grant sanity. Details: if Bravery is considered, this skill could also hold huge potential since that would make it the only hat in the game that can restore Walter's sanity. I hope some of these are useful to the devs. Source: my friend was an Eagle Scout, lol. MorePlease1
I hope they use yours and your friends ideas this is super detailed fits the character perfectly I would love for this to be his actual perks espically the pioneer hat ability because his sanity drop is actually insane Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/161280-suggestions-for-walter-skills/#findComment-1762230 Share on other sites
ArcAngela
Just now, Mysterious box said: I feel like this goes too far outside of what Walter is. For clarity; I'm referring to the initial hit, not the sanity drain that will still follow since Walter won't be at full health anymore. Adding to that; If the hat did offer sanity, Walter's sanity drains could still overwhelm it if he's too low on health. The thing is the on hit sanity damage is realistically the only one that matters the passive drain isn't any worse than a dark sword or dreadstone armor at it's peak Walter taking heavy sanity damage makes sense now more than ever now that they're finally leaning into his slingshot. So... wouldn't a wise Walter wear armor instead of the hat because regardless of how much damage it is, the armour would be more beneficial? flamboyant wolf
1 hour ago, Radicaljoe said: So... wouldn't a wise Walter wear armor instead of the hat because regardless of how much damage it is, the armour would be more beneficial? idk, I usually use wooden armor + pioneer hat early on, and later marble armor+the pioneer hat, if doing ranged combat off of Woby's back. Not like a head armor would get me any more defense, so might as well use a hat.(although in post rift, armor stacking does make a difference due to planar dmg, so that's something to keep in mind). But regardless, I don't think Walter's main downside should be diminished, it's part of his identity and part of what makes him interesting to play as. ArcAngela
I understand people want to discuss the bottom of the barrel but I'd much rather know what you think of the other ideas I suggested. ArcAngela
Interestingly enough, Bravery was somewhat implemented into Woby lmao This gives me hope for the other suggestions... Specially considering Wendy is now sitting at 28 skill options and Walter sits at one of the lowest trees with only 22 options. Realistically we are not fighting for space, so some of these could be implemented without sacrificing existing skills.
