They should add Walani to the game one of these days

Recommended Posts

I recall Joew stating that they wouldn't add any more pre-existing DS characters to DST, but also at another point stating that they would be open to it if it could be done interestingly, or something like that. To that end, I kind of wish Walani could be put into DST.

Walani exists as a starter character in DS and is also hampered by the limited scope of DS character design, so she doesn't have a lot to her, which means there is a lot of room for creative interpretation if she were to be re-worked in a DST context. She's also just a really cute character, and I would love to see all the sorts of skins that she could have. :bee:

you mean like this one here that comes with a pineapple already included? Yeah I wish Walani was in DST too..

And personally: her surfboards wouldn’t be much different from Goose Woodie flapping about over the ocean, they probably should definitely be a craft exclusively useable by Walani though, otherwise we gonna have Wolfgang’s who learned the secret Pikachu Surf technique (Easter egg nod to anyone old enough to know what I’m even referencing.)

dst is a coop game, every character you add into the game should make them a team player that contributes .
is really hard to see how would she be usefull in a team setting consider she isnt design to be in one

even if they stuff a rework, the amount of things they can pull off to a human surfer in a land base game is pretty hard

I don't expect we'll ever get new characters again (big reworks like Willow's are probably the closest we'll come), but if we did, I'd also love/prefer it to be existing DS characters rather than new ones. Personal preference of course, but everybody after Warly I've had a hard time connecting with. I guess I'm just a sucker for sentimentality and continuity.

Walani is definitely near or at the top of my list as well. She has a great design. Wheeler and Wilba would also be welcome. Putting Wagstaff aside, of course, since it seems he's been elevated above mere survivor status and Winona is actively stealing his things lol. The argument that they just wouldn't work in DST because their solo play iteration wouldn't work is really willfully blind to the fact that at an ever-increasing rate the DST cast barely resembles the gameplay of those same characters in the single player game.

I don’t know.. several of the games characters even after their reworks and skill trees seem to have selfish perks that only benefit themselves & do nothing for a “team”

And can we quit calling DST a team based game? It’s not… nor was it ever developed to be one.

SMITE is a Team Based game, you have characters whose powers directly complement one another to perform combos.

DST prior to reworks & skill trees, was just Don’t Starve but now I can run around with friends.

this design still lingers in a lot of even current character designs.

name ONE of Wilson’s perks that benefit an entire team..

Now name ONE of Wurts. Is it her everyone runs faster while on marsh turf? Maybe it’s Communal Kelp Dish? What about Willow..? Her Brighter Lighter Perks or Bernie Skills don’t benefit other Players.

And Winona? Sure she has some crazy perks she can Kit her structures with, but the second another Winona touches those structures they will intentionally downgrade themselves to match that other Winona’s perk choices.

My point? DST isn’t so much a “Team” Based game as it is just a game you can play with friends.

Now to play devils advocate (and because I exhaustively use to play smite)

If Maxwell could capture creatures inside his Pillars while Willow could use Combustion to set those pillars on Fire….

Conclusion: Even if Walani’s skills are selfish and self-centered, that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be playable.

Heat lamp for easy light and winter, also the only character that can teleport with statues ( for now)

also why would there be two winona in the same server

winona is harder to use in endless server where it get resets more
