Figured I might post stuff I doodle and imagine for don't starve here.
Starting with this Terrorbeak in halloween costume (it's dressed up as a scary moon creature!). 4 years ago for the halloween art submission I had made a drawing about nightmares in costumes (that i'm not posting here because it's ugly), and I liked the terrorbeak in that old drawing, so I redrew it recently because it's almost cute.

Also gonna post 2 other old halloween art submissions, here's the one from 2022, it was a bit more quickly made than the others.

And here's what I had done for halloween 2021 (dweller's one of my favourite mobs)

Some abigails I just drew for wendy skill tree ideas on alignment skills, since I believe there should be at least a branch of the skill tree that makes abigail shadow/lunar in some way (similar to willow's bernie). I also get a kick out of turning her into a different ghost

aligned abigails.png

I then drew these two because the previous ones were like, nice versions of abigail that don't change her that much. The following are creepier, it's another option and would make sense that gaining shadow or lunar power always costs you something

those also look epic! i can't tell which one i love more they're both so well designed! ( tho my heart is more on the shadow side, but i'm probably just biased mhh )

Here's the drawing I did yesterday for Don Giani's art contest. It was a lot of fun and the first time I was drawing live (while hoping my pc wouldn't blow up from photoshop+streaming for an hour). You can find the vod on his twitch channel btw

The theme was revealed at the start of the stream, we were 4 contestants and we had 1 hour to draw. Theme was : character of choice (including sw & hamlet) walks up to boss of choice among Tiger shark, Scrappy Werepig, Celestial Champion, Beequeen, Deerclops, Ancient Herald, Rabbit King. We also knew 2 surprise elements would need to be added during the contest.

I went with Tiger shark because it's my favourite don't starve mobs (behind sharkittens) and with Wurt because since she exist I've had ideas of her related with Tiger shark as mount or playmate or rival. As the theme was made public I instantly got this idea of an epic duel with high waves (thinking of stuff like hokusai's wave, as well as The Defense of the Sampo by Gallen-Kallela which inspired the merm sailors although I didn't have the time to really give them an interesting pose)

In about 12 minutes I had my line sketch + a color sketch. For colors I started with yellow+purple, then quickly switched to blue+orange because I thought it would be a nice fit and I love that combination.

Since we only had an hour to draw I rushed on my initial idea and used colors and artstyle I was comfortable with. For instance, the view I chose is very "flat" and symmetrical, pure side view, and at the start I tried a quick sketch with a more dynamic view but I saw it would be more complex for me to handle and decided to stick with my simpler and less dynamic idea to finish in time.

At 15 minutes we got the first surprise, it was one of three weapons : bat bat, tentacle spike or brightshade sword. Tentacle spike is the only one you could get in shipwrecked but only the brightshade sword fit well with my character's pose so I went with this one (then decided to give Wurt a brightshade armor to complement). During that part I did the clean line art for all characters, then added the flat color and then the shading.

At 30 minutes we got the second surprise, it was one of these three : straw hat, catcoon, or bulbous lightbug. I felt a bit lost at first (0 shipwrecked awareness haha), the logic choice would have been to give a straw hat to one of the merms, but I chose to put a hissing catcoon because it was cat vs cat and it was funnier, I think it added to "parody of epic stuff" vibe.

For the last 15 minutes I picked my color sketch back up and painted over it to make the background. I added foreground water, did retakes on the waves' colors and added lots of shimmer and splatters. My initial idea with the boat was to have it jump from its wave but I was limited by my composition and just made it part of the flow instead. I also gave a little glow to the sword and made it affect Tiger shark's lighting. Then I made the last color adjustments which were cut short because the contest ended, and that was it.

I finished an antlion battle theme remix I had started on a whim a while ago. I think I made it playing a bit with the feeling of  being stuck in an antlion larva's sand pit. But I mostly wanted to hear what it could become with a different rhythm (it's hard to remember).

Listen on soundcloud here

Antlion's theme is funny to play with, the whole piece is like a question that's never answered. At the same time it felt a bit hard knowing how to continue or end what I had started.

A commission I did for Don Giani, a poster for the speedrunning tournament hosted on february 8 (text omitted). I had pretty much full creative liberty so I chose to display a group fight against The Twins. I had never drawn them before and felt like they weren't shown a lot (btw, if you check on the wiki you'll see I made a lot of mistakes here and their phase 2 has a bunch of differences aside from the colors). Since they're a double, similar character, you can have some fun positioning them in a common motion and such, I also put the moon in there for style and lighting. Also after I chose to draw Wigfrid, remembered "hey she has an electric spear now". The character placement gave me a bit of trouble, I guess if the rectangle was taller it would have all fit a bit better in. I'm sorry for Webber fans, I had planned allied spiders here but spent too much time on the rest and got lazy for that.
For this art and the next I experimented a bit, trying to get a style that was closer to some of Don't Starve's official ones, and it actually saved me a bit of time on the line and rendering.

Another commission, done for Mr Worm, also related to the speedrunning tournaments. This was to depict a very cool moment that had happened to the winning player (you can find it on don giani's youtube channel "tournament season 2 stop 2" at about 2h27), basically a struggle to complete the moonstorm event in the midst of a swarm of spiders (how the hell did this even work, the amount of skill is ridiculous). So this time the subject was more precise, I had to draw Wicker on a beef with a static experiment and chased by spiders, with the usual moonstorm shenanigans happening.
Funnily the composition ended up pretty similar to my previous drawing. I wanted to depict a real wave of spiders to expand on their jumping theme, and added some lightning strikes + a clear view of Alter in the back for more movement and chaos. The beef is running for dear life and chester follows happily because such is chester. I was unsure about the color scheme but it kind of came together once I was done with everything's flat color. The shattered spider on a tree in the background is because I wanted to do a small werewolf scene for fun.
