Pirate raids shouldn't happen right when you jump on a boat

Recommended Posts

Multiple times I've had pirate raids happen when I jump on a boat just to place or take items for a moment. I feel like we shouldn't have to be prepared for a raid unless we actually go out on the ocean, so I think raids shouldn't be able to happen if the boat doesn't move yet, or if you're hugging the shore.

There's a grace period of 10 seconds, which is, something I guess.

There were massive improvements to the piratepspawner file, but there's plenty that could be better. A lot of values are hardcoded in there instead of being tuning variables, and some of the rules are still weird. Like you say, being right next to land or not moving the boat at all and getting raided is weird (except unless you use a mega flare I guess).

Not to mention that the way it works is basically a randomized meter that then does an rng check to do a raid or not, that goes up whenever there's players on boats within range and not within the grace period, but never goes down. It also works on ice "boats" I'm pretty sure.

The main thing I wish it got changed though is that pirate raids shouldn't happen during winter. Powder Monkeys on the island never come out of their huts during winter, implying it's too cold for them, yet you can still be raided by them?? Dunno, never felt right to me (the alternative is to make the ones on the island not hibernate during in winter, but that'd be kinda lame). Besides, with how annoying they can be, having a single season (not even a long one) where you can be fully safe from them, would be nice.
