How do purple gems affect pan flute against crab king?

Recommended Posts

I'm having trouble finding information about this, how much sleep resistance do the crab guards need before one use of the pan flute doesn't work on them? Does the pan flute apply a certain amount of sleep stacks, or is it an auto sleep effect?

Even with no gems, it takes two pan flute uses to sleep the guards. I don't think any other enemies behave like this anywhere else in the game. With 5 purple gem points, the guards take more than an entire pan flute to sleep. Pearl's Pearl is sort of a requirement for the fight and counts as 3 points for every gem type. If you want to sleep the guards, you don't want to use 2 purple gems and Pearl's Pearl.

Edit: I say other enemies don't work like this but it is similar to sleep darts. Each dart applies a stack of sleep and mobs have varying levels of sleep resistances. Introducing the effect on a boss summon and having no visual indication is super confusing if you are unaware.

This is obviously and blatantly incorrect.

The values given in the table aren't pan flute uses. A pan flute has a value of 10, IIRC? That would mean 4 uses in the worst case for knights.

I just tested and you are correct. I was confused because I used an entire panflute and part of another to sleep crab guards once. In most cases it took at least two panflutes to sleep the crabs but I realize now I probably had more purple gem points than I thought, given that I wasn't aware purple gem granted sleep resistance immediately.

The crabs hitting me while using the panflute must have cancelled the effect while burning the charge anyway. I thought if the charge was used than the ability went through, but I guess not. So that entire panflute I lost was from me getting robbed rather than the sleep resistance being strong.

It was a mistake made in good faith, your Honor.

which translate to the values from Ridley's post

this is code that makes mobs sleep

Whenever panflute or other sleep inducing items are used the effect "AddSleepiness" is called and sleepiness value of a mob is increased
For example each use of Panflute/Sleepytime Stories induce 10 sleepiness and 20 sleeptime
So if mob has 32 resistance they need to accrue at least 32 sleepiness to be put to sleep
