Skill tree ideas for Warly and Wes

Recommended Posts

Here's my skill tree ideas, keep in mind I don't know how to fine tune game balance, they could be adjusted as needed.

Warly:

Warly is a fun character, but I feel his downsides aren't really compensated for that well in day to day living, and his portable kitchenware doesn't really feel that portable aside from the crock pot with how many slots they take. Here's my ideas to improve him.

Warly"s skills:

Learn to craft a container to hold all your portable kitchenware and spices (like wigfrid's song canister) or alternatively upgrade the chef pouch to have extra slots that can only be used for this purpose

Gain a small stat bonus for dishes you eat if Warly doesn't remember them AND they were not the last meal you ate. This bonus scales up each time in a row you do this. This would encourage and reward leaning in to the intended playstyle of Warly, rather than trying to avoid it for convenience' sake

Something to make farming a bit easier and less time consuming, since he is dependent on them. Someone suggested honey crystals making tilling faster, I think that plus other farming activities could be made faster by them

Something to make volt goat materials a bit easier to come by, maybe increased drop rate for horns when he kills one, and some way to get milk without needing an expensive electric weapon

Some slightly more reliable way to get butter

Wes:

While Wes is meant to be the challenge character, I still think his skill tree should aim to make him a pretty strong character, but mostly in utility. His low stats and damage will always make him harder to play, but I think there should be plenty good reason to still pick him regardless. These are just a few specific ideas I have, but I think he should get plenty other strong and useful skills.

As a note, some of the stronger balloon crafts should include additional resource costs aside from sanity

Wes's skills:

Inflatable vest now reduces wetness from drowning, and prevents items in your inventory from falling into the ocean (I don't think the current vest is really that good outside of emergencies)

Speedy balloon gets a small boost in speed and durability, and doesn't deflate in your inventory

Startling balloon: overinflate a big balloon to pop it, startling enemies (like tail o three cats) and drawing their aggro

Balloon backpack with 2 more slots than a normal backpack, but it pops if you are hit with it on

Balloon armor, absorbs 100% damage but pops in one hit (don't know if this could be balanced, but it's funny)

Water balloon, just fill it at a pond, pretty obvious. Maybe a limited duration version so you can't stockpile

Thulecite frag balloon: thulecite filled balloon that does high AOE damage when popped (including to players, of course)

Uncertain idea, but give the option to boost one of your max stats by a bit (like up to 100), but the other two cannot be chosen as well

Balloon mech. Just do it. It pops in one hit, but you can shoot a barrage of balloons that pop on enemies or after a short time, and shooting balloons drains sanity quickly, so you need to fuel up on sanity food/party balloons to keep firing

One last note, I don't think these characters' downsides should be outright removed/mitigated by the skill trees (especially Warly) they should just be given tools to make their upsides better able to compensate for their downsides
