Idea for making hunting down the atrium tentacle easier.

If you punch the giant tentapillar that goes to the atrium, it spawns shadow tentacles instead of regular ones.

What I see as a necessity, especially for those who speedrun, is an item that indicates the correct location to access the Atrium. So what is needed is an item like Astral Detector or Thulecite Medallion. It's something simple, just a new item (or an upgrade of the Thulecite Medallion) that can be made at the Ancient Pseudoscience Filter.

The medallion itself could work for that since it only has 1 real use (knowing the nightmare phase state is worthleds imo)

I feel like what ppl forget is that the issue isn’t just the atrium tentapillar but tentapillars as a whole.

if we make finding the atrium tentapillar easy and consistent, then would anyone ever use the others? I know for sure I wouldn’t. Having to fight one every time just for fast travel simply isn’t worth it, especially if you aren’t wendy/wormwood.
I think the tentapillars shouldn’t respawn. It’ll make using them actually viable and it’ll make searching for the atrium not as boring since you’re also unlocking a permanent fast travel source while you’re doing it.

im not against adding an easier way of identifying the atrium tentapillar as well, I just think tentapillars themselves are also a problem.

I've seen them being very useful for Wickerbottom players (Mr.Giggio's live). They're also great for taming beefalos (ornery). I don't think it's a good idea for them to disappear.

we got gloomerang, catapults and bright shade staff now, the only problem's that using 1 of them hardly saves time since you also need to spend like 20 seconds or so on killing it

it still would not help as much, since currently, when you clear a tentapilar and use it, you will know "two" tentapillars that don't lead to the atrium.

While on your suggestion, you would punch the tentacle, see that it is not the atrium one, then either have to kill it to check another one out or not kill it and have a chance to end up finding tentapillar that it would lead into.

there sould be thulecite as the dirt sorounding the tentacle itself, alsol i see killing tentapilars not as fast travel, for that it takes too long, but more so as gettin more tentacle spikes and tentacle spots wich is the only way to get more of, the weapon one at least, i think it sometimes drops swamp turf aswell wich is something i guess?

Doesn't medal already show AG's location? I think another item could be used, maybe another ruins craft using something like tentacle spots and thulecite.

Yes so it could also mark the tentapillars

And some fuel corruption could be cool just for esthetics

In between, Tentacle pillars will only respawn somewhere underground if you kill more than half of the total number of tentacle pillars underground. This allows you to keep holes that you often use for movement open.

Another solution is that item when you put it in the hole it will respawn the tentacle pillar?
