I’m reaching out in hopes this message reaches the developers. My new favorite character is Walter unfortunately he’s horrible.. he is a F list character but because of his potential he’s a D list and with wobby he is an A list. Walter is such an amazing character design but he’s poorly executed. PLEASE KLEI PLEASE. WALTER NEEDS A WHOLE REHAUL. Since Walter is a scout he should be reworked to fit that. He should be the next to get a skill tree and here’s some ideas I have: 1. Walter’s stats: Health 150 Sanity 200 and Hunger 120 this makes a lot of sense seeing as he loses sanity so easily. Walter takes less sanity loss and drains from taking damage. 2. Walter’s Sanity rework: Walter should gain sanity when full health something that could be cool would be that Walter gains health when his hunger is full. Walter’s ,hat should have a small damage reduction, lower even more sanity taken and gain sanity when worn. His hat gives him sanity that he can’t even use so while being worn it Walter should gain sanity. Walter’s damage to sanity ratio: When Walter is below 100> health he loses sanity but it should be he loses sanity when he’s below 90 or 80 this makes more sense since he’s fearless and although he doesn’t like getting hurt he should have more courage and it doesn’t make sense I could be at 99% of health and lose sanity. 3. Scout related perks: Walter should be able to have his own portable campfire and if not that every campfire Walter places it lasts longer, WALTER has a passive of courage whenever he’s near other players or followers he buffs their damage and/or health this could be applied to himself as well, WALTER should be able to have a first aid kit or the ability to heal himself to some degree, SINCE his favorite food is trail mix he should be able to make different types with different perks similar to warly. WALTER should have additional nutrients with jerky and roasted seeds/burchnuts. Jerky can also be used to extend wobbys hunger timer. 4. Wobby rework: increases the damage you have to take until wobby bucks you off: 15 or more damage in a 7 second frame. Walter encourages Wobby: she takes longer to buck you off, gains increased speed and hunger, won’t run as far when scared. Walter gains 20 sanity over 10 seconds when petting Wobby this could have a 15-30 minute cool down. Walter can give commands to Wobby including sit/stay, run away, and fetch. Having Wobby sit will have her stay in that area until Walter is 7 or more tiles away and then she will run to him, Run away would be sending Wobby away for a limited duration and she will come running back, Fetch would be you give Wobby an item to sniff and she will run away and bring it back to you this depends on the item and the vicinity of the item (for example giving Wobby a stick to sniff she will go off (you can see her on-screen or she will go off-screen) and find the item but if you give her a red gem with none in your vicinity she will come back sad with nothing, or if you give him a piece of armor to smell with non in the vicinity she will come back sad with nothing. Wobby could have her own crafting table it would be a small craft selection but you could craft scout related things or first aids or anything along those lines. 5. Walter’s Skill Tree: Scout Badges and Sash: These names aren’t the best and can be changed. Walter could wear a sash and add/subtract badges similar to WX OR he could just earn these skills/badges and be ready for immediate use. MANS BEST FRIEND: Buddy levels with Wobby having 1-3 skills improving Wobbys hunger and speed OR Similar to Wolf’s gangs mighty meter, Wobby could have a buddy/hunger meter the more she is fed in a medium time frame the buddy meter goes up and benefits are applied. HOSPITALITY/SCOUTS HONOR: Pig men, Rabbits, and some other creatures won’t run away from Walter as often or aren’t as skittish around him. Also adding more songs Walter can sing :). SCRAP BOOK: When Walter inspects an animal or creature he takes note of their weakness and behavior. This could lead him to new crafting recipes and cooking recipes as well as new patterns for kitting for Walter. (Not sure this is a good one.. Moving on!) SCOUTS TOOLS: This is could be better than the scrap book. Walter can make a Whistle he can use to command Wobby. He could have a portable campfire that could buff his campfire stories. SCOUTS EYE: Inspecting tracks can identify the animal and Walter is faster at finding the animals when tracking. He can also inspect animals to add to his scrap book BOY SCOUTING: Mapping for Walter is easy and he knows the way! The map will extend farther for Walter and he can identify more things on the map than others can’t as well as being able to mark things on the map with scout stickers. WILD MAN: Being near trees and on forest turf gives Walter sanity. This skill boosts his scout tent and hat increasing the duration/durability for both but also increases the amount of health/sanity and sanity reduction. Walter could play in mud or ponds and could make his own camouflage that could hide him from enemies. RESOURCEFUL: A perk that could make Walter resourceful in a way. Maybe add more to his scout crafting. Definitely buff his hat. NOT AFRAID/FEARLESS: When fighting a boss Walter could gain sanity, speed, and damage. This could also relate to his connection with deerclops. The more enemies aggravated onto Walter the more damage his slingshot can do. TRUSTY SLINGSHOT II: Boost Walter’s sling shot speed, range, and/or damage. Walter could introduce different types of sling shots. The faster you press the faster Walter could fire. Walter could aim or become steadied when he shoots so he doesn’t get out of lock and start moving. This weapon definitely needs a buff. FRIENDSHIP BADGE: The more players or followers near Walter the more his sanity increases whilst having less of a sanity deduction when he takes damage. His campfire stories are buffed and He gains courage he can share with his friends and wobby. That’s my conclusion and input on how to make Walter better. I think we really need a FULL rework just because Walter has so many random things going on with him It just seems very jumbled. He is a great character with great potential and a great personality. Please Klei do more with this character!! And for the love of Deerclops please lower his sanity deduction! Thank you!! NPCMaxwell Posted September 18, 2024 Share Posted September 18, 2024 Honestly I haven't read if any other user already had this idea but I just thought right now in this moment: What if, as a scout, Walter had the ability to mark stuff on the map PROPERLY (not just sign but actually minimap symbol for some non-minimap stuff) AND if he could reveal parts of the map he is standing on for other players (may be helpful in early exploring?)
