Webber skill tree ideas

Recommended Posts

As a Webber main I have found a lot of instances where a skill tree could be really beneficial to him and his play style. Here is a few of my ideas to make Webber more fun to play and more unique.

Miscellaneous Perks:

Webby Crafts:

Webber can now craft silk turf, can be placed over the top of regular turf similarly to the webbing around spider dens (other survivors would not be slowed by it but it still slows enemies)

Webber can also craft an upgraded version of the webby whistle which heals all nearby spiders similarly to the healing glop when blown.

Spider Perks:

Polite posse:

Befriended spiders will no longer eat meat that is on the ground, not push Webber (with large amounts of spiders they would get in your way but with this perk they would give you more room) and the more spiders you have the less noise they make, because when playing with hordes of spiders they are so loud which makes it impossible to hear anything but them screaming.

Passive spiders:

When spiders get hit around a spider nest that has been decorated will no longer remove said decorations.

Switcherdoodle perks:

Abundant baking I and II:

Crafting a switcherdoodle now gives 2 instead of one. Abundant baking II will give three.

Delicious Dessert:

Webber can now eat switcherdoodles for temporary unique effects.

it would be hard to balance for it not to be too overpowered or complicated but here is a few examples

warrior: damage buff

cave: incoming damage reduction

strider: wetness resistance

Mutated: spawns glass shards on attack

Spider queen perks:

Regal reinforcement:

can now befriend spider queen by using the Den Decorating kit on it.

Silky saddle:

Webber can now craft a saddle which has inventory slots that can only hold spiders, but they will remain fresh similar to the Tin Fishing bin.

King of the Spiders:

Webber can now tame and mount a Spider queen similarly to a beefalo.

this has been some of my ideas for his skill tree. There are more I would like to talk about with maybe some branches into other aspects like the fact he is a kid and lived on a farm. I didn’t even mention his affinities.

But I might come back to this later with a concept of spider queen mount, or how the skill tree should look. But I would like others opinions on my ideas!

Here is a quick sketch of happy spider queen

I think you would really like this:

There are a lot of good ideas in this that I would love to have implemented, like picking up tier 1 dens.

but I feel like other thing may be a bit too broken like spiders being able to preform actions like mining, chopping, etc. because with that you could befriend a hoard (and because spiders are always loyal after you befriend them until you use the shoobox) just wipe out entire forests and easily kill any tree guard that spawns.

Ya since other followers Are able to and non-bedazzled or befriended spiders can you break walls at night?

Do you think I should make an exclusive to night? Or do you have alternative in mind?

I just think that spiders doing more complex actions feels out of place, but if you really wanted to keep it I would suggest only certain spiders can do specific tasks like cave spiders mining rocks or shattered spiders chopping trees. But I’ve always seen the spiders as simple creatures only capable of violence, and only obeying simple commands from the webby whistle.

That’s why they need to be taught or trained

  • Being able to swing from tall structures like trees, pillars, etc.
  • Some sort of danger sense, like some visual effect around the Webber when he's about to get hit or is in danger.
  • Some sort of climbing abilities? Like being able to climb over the ancient obelisks.
  • Being able to shoot webs to imobilize foes.
  • Maybe a red headed love interest follower.

So any other ideas for alternatives because I sort of have something like that already in it

I am not sure, but it seems to me that the person who suggested the spider man abilities didn't mean it serious. It more felt to me as if it was meant to be a parody of skill-trees changing the gameplay of a character too much or something.

Actually I don't have an opinion on this right now. And to be honest, it's your decision what you want to do with YOUR ideas so if you want to keep your ideas as it was that's ok, if you want to adapt it to the suggestion of the person, that's also ok. Just maybe don't change something if you feel unhappy with the changed version. [that's how I usually work on my ideas, I sometimes change something when I get a good reason for it, but if it doesn't fit into MY fantasy anymore I rather stick to my idea, no matter how illogical or silly or weird or undesired-by-other-people it may be.]

Ya  I just want to make it as lore accurate as possible while also making it something everybody is happy with

everybody is extremly broad. Me for examply I would TRULY be happy if NO character was changed from how their single player DS version functioned like. [that also means no reworks etc.] When it comes to lore accuracy I agree with the thread creator that spiders don't really seem to have a "cultivated" society enough to actually do task that the bipedal creatures could do. [yet alone from their anatomy imo] I suppose their casts [warrior and so on] are more focused on the wellfare of their den, instead of collecting recourses that at least a regular spider probably couldn't use a lot. [that means rocks. Though maybe the cave spiders could indeed find some use for them.]

They can break wall made of those materials by biting them(and ewecues snot is self explanatory)over a period of time and the spider half has its own performance were it talks  so ether they are sentient and just need to be taught or the merging gave it sentience and sense Webber can give them small commands with curtain instruments like dogs I could see it being possible to train them to do work like dogs

I suppose they should still be less efficient at it compared to the bipedal creatures (since the spiders sound like the would use physical strength only instead of being able to use tools....ok granted Pigs also "kill mean trees" with their bare fists.) I thought spiders only bit walls down the same way hounds do, just because it's part of their "agression" pattern, not because they had any use for the material. But then training if you mention should require a special training / command tool for every Single task.

But then since I am not a webber player (although I adore spiders), I can't really estimate what kind of gameplay change would be "too much"

I didn’t mean for it to feel like I was shutting down your ideas, one reason I made this forum was for other’s opinions. Each of us each have different perspectives on the subject and I find that wonderful! So don’t let my opinions get in the way of yours! :D

Ya definitely less effective

I’ll consider the extra tools

I didn’t think you were doing that I just thought you didn’t like it so I was trying to fix it

What if in order for them to know what to do they have to see you do it normally so they make the connection between that and them breaking down stuff

That reminds me of the original Maxwell Shadows which is why I like this mechanic 100%
