Crab King rework is really difficult solo with a motor disability.

Recommended Posts

Granted the game itself is difficult but hoo boy Crab King is rough. Not complaining, just have to keep practicing. It is doable one handed I can confirm. Just took... 7 rollbacks but hey, technically possible. Fun fight (when you are actually allowed to place your ships at least).

Not on-topic, but how do you feel about the market of prosthetics that can be mind-controlled? yk, the ones that you can actually feel and move. Are those even an option?

I prefer the ones that reacts to muscle inputs on the exterior. The one that is a metal rod that is inside your body scares me for infection reasons. I know most advanced prosthetics are still a work in progress. Someday I believe they will become affordable.

Someday we will be able to grow a real human arm and connect everything, just like how right now there are experiments with growing organs. I'm sure you will get your arm back one day!

I dont want to sound rude or to mock at you, so sorry in advantage if sounds like that, but i would be worried if in a  videogame forum i read "this boss is easy with 1 hand"

Maybe it helps to use sails with a ancler so it helps you moving the boat straight without going to fast to break it?

Pd. Congrats for beating him. Some people wont be able even with 5 hands

Totally understandable. Just coming from an accessibility standpoint as I am an accessibility tester for games. Kind of hard to not have it in the forefront of my mind. So I look to make sure things are possible. This post was more of a brag honestly because I was very happy to have killed the reworked Crab King. AFW is one I hope gets tweaked because solo as wilson is... oof.

Maybe they could add an accessibility keybinging option to add rick click functions to another key

@Evelo

would a keybind that you can bind to your mouse, that opens a quick action menu (multiple circles you can bind items/actions to) make it much easier for you to play? I just had this idea

I play predominately with my left hand on the keyboard. with my mouse being used very rarely. I changed all the keybinds to be comfortable for me. The hardest part is placing stuff down, so having to do that frequently or use boards to heal my boat is the hardest part of the Crab King fight. Same reason why I hate the Weather Pain, very difficult to aim it using only the keyboard.

I am sure I could rebind everything to a left handed MMO mouse, but then I'd lose my years of practice without one for DST.

I see him as a mid-level boss. Of course, if you choose a specific combination of gems, Crab King will turn into a demon.

In a tier list I would place CK alongside Klaus and Nightmare Werepig.

With motor disability, perhaps there is a character that helps with this task. Winona, Wurt or Webber are not good options?

Yea mechanically he isn't that difficult just a lot to juggle. I definitely did not do it well initially, lots of misplays on my part. I did it as Wormwood (surprise surprise) went with 3 purple gems and ate the moonshrooms on the left and right to put the little crabs to sleep. I learned a lot, next time I am 100% doing that strat again but not using bramble armor as that just wakes up the crabs if they get too close, sticking with darkswords, and I like the grass raft strat you used so i'll have to do that next instead of trying to make wood boats in a panic because mine is sinking since I couldn't repair it in time.

Wurt and Webber trivialize the game imo, but I do like winona and am playing her in a separate world to try and master her for my multiplayer game I play every now and then with my friends. (One of them wants to give Wormwood a try so I can give him tips and tricks n such).

Edit: after finally being able to watch your video, haha holy crap I really did misplay a lot. The use of the Lazy Cane was great, never considered that. Love learning about different strategies, one of the things I miss from raiding in MMOs.

Try the strategy I did in the video. Gems: 1 of each color + 2 additional greens (total of 3 greens). It's what I find easiest and still Wilson's. The Lazy Explorer also helps a lot in this process.

Without the pearl, I use:

4 purple gems + 4 orange gems + 1 green.

Or

4 purple gems + 4 green gems + 1 orange gem.

Or

3 purple gems + 3 green gems + 3 orange gems.
