The issue with Winona's Charlie and Wagstaff skills

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I kinda have an issue with the capstone skills for the Charlie and Wagstaff paths for Winona. The gist is that, from what I recall, the Charlie path is far more powerful than the Wagstaff path, at least the final, mutually exclusive skills. The Charlie skill lets you revive from flowers on a 4-minute cooldown (last time I checked, at least), make bridges across narrow ocean gaps, and reroute wormholes, making it quite practical for survival, short-distance traversal, AND long-distance traversal.

Meanwhile, the Wagstaff path provides what is, thanks to suboptimal pathing mechanics, a single wormhole, at least without going a considerable distance on foot anyway to get to a telipad far enough away to be not involved with the other pair, and a craftable Wobot. Oh, and the Telipads require charging with Generators, unlike the Wormholes, so unless you socket Enlightened Shards into the generator, it'll still require maintenance, making it not even have a cost efficiency over the 15 sanity penalty for using a Wormhole.

Basically, the Charlie path has way more stuff than the Wagstaff path, and that stuff is also more useful. Some friends of mine were playing in the beta, and apparently the Winona just used the flower revival mechanic to require only 25 or so hunger a day to survive long enough for the revive to recharge.

Now, it'd be remiss of me to not propose a solution of some sort, and thankfully giving the Wagstaff path a good use and reason to choose it over the Charlie path is pretty simple, at least to my mind. Simply have the Telipad system work from oldest-to-newest rather than simply going to the closest one. 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 sort of pattern. This would allow a telipad network, rather than needed to calculate distance to have more than 2 usable telipads, or to use them just a hop-back-base-button

I hope these suggestions are useful, or at least show the issues with Winona's current state regarding the Charlie and Wagstaff skills.
