Revised Feedback on the Planting Interval of Gloomthorn and Sproutrock

Recommended Posts

In yesterday's post, I suggested modifying the planting interval for Gloomthorn and Sproutrock. It appears that the developers noticed my post and made changes accordingly. However, I realize now that my suggestion was not thorough and well-considered, inadvertently disrupting certain gameplay elements.

Today, after discussing with my group, I learned that some players had already developed strategies for the original planting intervals of Gloomthorn and Sproutrock. With proper planning, the original intervals allowed for the use of the Shadow Reaper to harvest them in large quantities, which was a significant and enjoyable aspect of the game. The newly modified intervals, influenced by my previous suggestion, have unfortunately diminished this enjoyment, as the Shadow Reaper can now only harvest one Gloomthorn or Sproutrock at a time.

I apologize for my oversight and would like to propose that the developers consider making appropriate adjustments. For instance, modifying the size of Gloomthorn and Sproutrock, revising the planting intervals again, or optimizing in other ways. The current changes feel somewhat abrupt and have destroyed the original gameplay fun.

Here is the schematic design created by our group members. This design takes advantage of the previous planting intervals to harvest more crops at once. He told me that it allows for harvesting six crops at a time, and it can also be designed into a regular farm.

While the current design can effectively avoid some issues, it is too simple and crude, and it destroys the existing fun. The Shadow Reaper was designed to harvest more crops at once, but now it can only harvest one Gloomthorn or Sproutrock at a time. Therefore, I believe my suggestion from yesterday was indeed inappropriate.

I think restoring the original planting intervals and adding character dialogue prompts could solve potential issues. Alternatively, modifying the collision sizes of Gloomthorn and Sproutrock might also be a solution.

I have not tested yet, but my hypotonose is that using the shadow reaper is always slower when picking these trees no matter what.

When you click them, you get all of the fruit at once, whereas using the reaper you scapper the fruit around and have to pick each of them individually.

It is obvious that the answer is no. The following video shows the time I tested. You can compare it with your results. Moreover, with proper planning, if other characters help or if tools like W.I.N.bot, W.O.B.O.T., or Polly Roger's Hat are used, the gameplay and cooperation will be greatly enhanced. However, simply and bluntly increasing the planting interval clearly suppresses these possibilities.

I'm pretty disappointed in the spacing change. I had a 6 tile sprouting area which was more than enough before this change. Now I would need to allocate a 24 tile area to have the same amount of sprouting area. The spacing requirements feel way too high now.image.png.f1fea40c949bb3415349a6ba215cf45c.png

Maybe the seeds could maintain the small spacing and sprouts the larger spacing?
