I'm guessing you can't target the trees, because it automatically targets toad, right? So to hit a tree now, you have to line up a tree between you and toad. Is that correct? Have you tried binding “switch target” to see if that'll target trees? I haven't tried it myself, but it is something I'll do when I fight him again. It's funny how fixing WP for AFW messed it up for other things, but at least toad is doable with glass axes or torches on console, which is what I usually do. My setting option for target locking is disabled. Switch target is X on switch I believe, which is also inspect. When using target lock, you cannot switch targets because inspect has priority. You would need to either unbind inspect to X (or whatever it is on Xbox) or change the bind. You'd also have to enable target lock, which can be incredibly annoying at first and at times when it randomly gets stuck on something, but will ultimately give you a more PC like experience with better control over kiting and the actual ability to target giant tentacles. Worth giving it a try imo.
