Shadow planar strike feels kinda underwhelming at this point

Recommended Posts

Now shadow planar strike has completely different effect to its lunar counterpart. It leaves 2 minute area and deals almost 20 damage to every creatures walking on it. I think the new shadow planar strike is amazing. It can be used to various fights and situations such as Wagstaff moon storm mission, Fuelweaver, clockwork rook / Ancient guardian, killing beefalos without making them hostile, dealing with hounds or spiders. But there're some points that makes the shadow planar strike underrated compared to lunar strike.

1. Unlike lunar strike, shadow strike cannot damage fused shadeling, which is one of the main sources to farm pure horror. On the other hand, the lunar strike can directly help farming pure brilliance by destroying the riftstals easily.

2. Shadow strike doesn't have any direct AoE damage.  Which is useful in certain situations, but because of the lack of dmg there's no reason to use more than 1 catapults to shoot shadow strike, unlike the lunar one.

3. The enemies hit by rose field still get aggroed to the catapult threw the shadow strike. Kinda strange because the rose field still remains after you dismantle the catapult.

4. They have the same fuel efficiency with lunar strike. The problem is the max fuel cap for generators are much lower than the G.E.M.erators. Also, the lunar affinity has almost no problem with the power source, because pure brilliance is easier to mass-produce with Wicker-Wilson moon storm farm, and Winona can even use enlightened crown shards.

5. It has no effect to flying creatures. Which is somewhat understandable, but it's a shame considering the shadow strike is the counterpart of the lunar strike.

6. Can't deploy any structure on the rose field. Which creates negative synergy with Winona, because her playstyle is focused on deploying structures more than any other characters.
