Bronzebot
As much as there is to say about Winona's skilltree, I'd like to bring up one of my long-time gripes with her quick crafting. Namely, the invisible timer associated with it. For those unfamiliar with how it works: each time Winona crafts something while above 50 hunger, an instant drain of 5 hunger is triggered, the item is made in 0.5 seconds (default being 1 second) and an invisible timer of 1 minute starts ticking. Any subsequent crafts made within this timer will also be made quickly (again, while above 50 hunger) and will reset the timer back to 1 minute. Once the timer expires, the whole process repeats the next time you craft something. Conversely, crafting while below 50 hunger takes 3 seconds. Due to this, Winona is encouraged to craft in bulk when possible and try to keep intermittent crafts within the timer to maintain efficiency. While it is possible to manually keep track of the timer using two segments of the day clock as reference, it certainly isn't enjoyable. Additionally, this function was altered during Wickerbottom's rework (IIRC) so that the timer never expires as long as you remain standing still after your last crafting. While this does make her drawback more forgiving for beginners exploring the crafting UI, it also makes the learning and understanding of her downside less intuitive. A good while back, Warly had a smilar issue with his downside: Varied diet. Encouraging the player to mix up their dining by dulling the effects of repeated meals can actually be considered a fun drawback, yet, having to manually keep track of what you ate and how long ago often became pure guesswork. That was until Klei implemented the mechanic of examining meals to have Warly telegraph whether or not a specific meal was eaten recently, and just like that, the Warly experience became ever so slightly, yet, so much more acceptable. Is Winona's hunger drawback as significant as Warly's? No, in fact, you have to trigger it 30 times (!) for it to consume your max hunger just once, and eating a raw seed is almost enough to offset this drain when it triggers altogether. Still, I can't help but think that relaying this information to the player would make for such a good quality of life change now that Winona is a relevant topic in the eyes of Klei. Having Winona announce when her quick crafting expires via quotes (like how Warly's seasoned food works) would suffice, but giving her a meter (controversial, I know) to communicate this mechanic would be excellent. Perhaps something similar to Wigfrid's inspiration meter or Wanda's age meter? Thoughts? flamboyant wolf
I think some indicator on her hunger bar could work?
