A late analysis on the ancient boat and how it could be cooler

Recommended Posts

The ancient boat, on paper, is a REALLY cool idea.

A boat you can't craft, but must instead find from a chest.

This quality makes it feel much more special and incentivises taking care of your boat instead of it being disposable.

however...

it is kind of underwhelming, just having some built in space that can be replaced by a chest and double health.

BUT... i think making it more of like a gradual questline to build a complete ancient boat would make it worth it.

What i mean by this, is that each sunken chest would have a chance to drop multiple pieces of something a boat needs.

- List of items and their strengths (May add art later) -

All items can only be placed on an ancient boat.

1. Ancient mast

- Can be opened and closed faster, Can fit an ancient deck illuminator or a lightning conductor. Destroyed in 6 hits and gives off a coldness aura when in action (a cool breeze)

2. Ancient deck candle - 1,5x fuel efficiency, emits a +4/min sanity aura in said light.

3. Ancient cannon kit - Fires 4 shrapnel in a cone instead of  a fixed cannonball, hitting multiple objects or enemies.

4. Ancient copper fishing bin kit - Can hold 3 space for bait, which will never spoil.

5. Ancient nautopilot kit - Pulls items toward the boat, albeit slowly.

6. Ancient steering wheel - More durability, turns faster.

7. Ancient iron anchor - Makes your boat take less damage while deployed, heavier.

Despite this update not originally being meant for the ocean, i think it would make treasure chests even more exciting.

I love this idea, but I think more could be done to differentiate the ancient equipment from each other and their normal counterparts.

The ancient cannon could instead be a weathered mortar. It could fire slower and more impactful projectiles over a longer range, but would break every now and then, requiring repair with any type of wood.

The ancient mast would fit it's title more if it was slower at turning and raising/lowering, but would make the boat move at incredible speeds. The Malbatross sail would turn faster, but move slower, so the role of a quick sail is still fulfilled.

The deck candle sounds good but could have a reduced range as it would be a weaker light source than a lantern.

The ancient anchor should drop way faster, but take more time to be pulled up (not sure if heavier means this).

The boat itself should be expandable on the side by interacting with the arrows, as was brought up before the beta. This would make it more modular and provide more space on boats.

That's all :)

i feel like that would be worse because if a rock is in your way you cant stop it

Perhaps it could instead have a downside of being extinguished faster in rain?

Interesting idea, could make room for more boat shapes. The bigger size would also be a downside and an upside, since you may knock into objects more.

neat ideas!
