I've noticed the auto compiler does not show up when I launch the game, even though the mod I'm working on can be found inside, and the mod can be played (albeit at the most bare bones version. I do not think it is compiling the files, when I try going into the Don't Starve Mod Tools it only lets me upload mods. When I attempt to go inside the file, and open the Auto Compiler directly, it gives me an error message

I am new to modding, so everything I have been doing has been with the help of a lengthy tutorial, one that everyone seems to be getting great help from. It recommends I delete the TEX and xml files from the Extended Sample Character, and that the Auto Compiler will put everything together after placing the mod in the mods folder of Don't Starve Together. But it will immediately crash my game upon opening a world with the mod added on, it feels like it is not doing what it is supposed to. If I use the mod without changing anything, it will work. But I plan to add items to the game, and if this is going to keep happening whenever I change something, I fear I'll never reach my goal

If I am doing something incorrectly, or if I am following a bad tutorial, I'd really appreciate any help I can get

I recommend you either take a screencap of and post the error message here or try to investigate the message yourself. It sounds like something is wrong with the Auto Compiler itself, but we wouldn't be able to tell you what without seeing it.

The first is the error that appears when I open the autocompiler by going directly into the files, the second is all that is available to me when I open the Don't starve Mod Tools normally

I did already reinstall the Mod Tools, it does not need any updates, and it is downloaded on the same computer in the same way as Don't Starve Together

I'm using a Windows 11 if that helps

It does! I recently had to move to a Windows 11 computer and I had the same error message as you! X)

From what I understand, Windows 11 is missing something from the Microsoft Visual C++ library that the compiler needs to work. That's the "MSVCP120.dll".

You need to install an update to allow it to run.

I did this back in November so my memory is foggy but I believe I used the download from here? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-for-visual-c-2013-and-visual-c-redistributable-package-5b2ac5ab-4139-8acc-08e2-9578ec9b2cf1

If you don't trust that link or it does not work, you can google "MSVCP120.dll" and you should see results from the microsoft forums from other users looking for it. Make sure to get it from Microsoft themselves just to be safe.

I hope that helps you!

I installed the update, and checked to make sure my computer didn't need anything else, but the Autocompiler gives me the same error message. Do I need to have things in a specific file?

Still hasn't worked for me, if anyone has any ideas

Installing it and restarted your computer should have just fixed it. Sorry to hear that you're still having problems.

I looked back at my files from November and it seems I downloaded both "vcredist_x64" (the one I linked you) and "vcredist_x86". I'm not sure which one fixed my issue as I installed them both together. It looks like I got x86 from here.

If that doesn't work I'm not sure what to suggest other than looking up the error and looking at what other people have done to fix it

EDIT: I just realised that my computer is x86 bit and if yours is as well that might be why the x64 one didn't work. Derp. I really hope this fixes it for you.
