How the Crab King died

Recommended Posts

My world is average, despite it's always night (lights out). My plan was to turn it to eternal light with fullmoon.

I picked Willow as a survivor, gave her 3 skillpoints in lighter area because I planned to use it as my primary light source, then some magic , a little of Bernie, and shadow flames of course because I think it suites Willow better thematically.

There's a lot to say about my survival for 300 days here, but I'll skip it for now. Yesterday I finally got the pearls pearl and started to think how I will kill the Crab KIng.

I beat him only once as Maxwell and his minions actually made all the job that time, so I am not expierenced at all with this boss. I was barely able to do it even with Maxwell. So I've started to think how can I cheat.

My world had only a few bee boxes, so the plan to catch bees was so-so, you know. I've prepared a lot of gunpowder instead but then I realized that I would need to rely on ice-staff+ice-flingo in order to make pauses between gunpowder usage. I didn't want that.

Another plan was to use Twins of Terror. But they could easily be attracted to me, as well as their spawn... And it's not likely I can just sit cosplaing a bush on a boat.

Then I thout maybe I can beat him by myself, probablydon't provide him with purple gems so the geysers won't be deadly and I would have some time to thing. and maybe my shadow flames could cancel his healing... Yes, that was a viable idea, but what gems to use then? If I'll buff him wih blue, I would likely freeze to death, plus blue is an unlucky color for Willow. If I would use green, then crab-grab-claws will shred me apart. Maybe I should buff his health with red? Or regeneration, since I want to use shadow flames...

And while I was thinking about it, I've started to collect bees simply because I had to do something while I'm considering.

This way I acknowledged 5 facts:

- attacking the bee box with a net spends 30% of net's durability

- bee boxes never restore hp

- my flame, even after I extinguish it with hungry lighter, also damages bee boxes

- crafted bee box can't be attacked

- if crafted bee box is put on flame, it will reveal only 4 bees, instead of 6 in wild bee hives.

Anyway, I somehow collected more then ~100 of bees.  And then I though - okay I alreeady have them, why not to give it a try? But I didn't know how bees would behave at night, and also I had some worker bees among my stacks and I didn't know if they will also agro or not. What I knew is that with bees I shouldn't use Bernie while Crab King is alive cause he will definetely attract them all to us.What I also knew was that bees attack so frequently, that they can cancel healing. And I am afraid od geysers..

So I decided to use orange gems since I can cancel healing. Once I was aroung the Crab, I released all bees and used panflute.then inserdet the gems and jumped on another boat.

He started to spam geysers... I was sailing circle by circle, but the bees... were not waking up. It's night. If I would hit them anyhow, they'll aggro on me and I don't need it. It was a moment of thinking hard. After that I decided to use Frame Cast to set some of them on fire without aggroing. It worked! Some bees died but others woke up and aggroed to Crab King. I was learning to sale close enoughin order for Crab King to not freeze my bees. And I've made a second attempt after I had some understanding (wih rollback) - so the Crab King died very fast and unexpected.

The arena clean up was easy - combustion!

With this story I want to say: use orange gems instead of purple, it makes life easier! However the rework is upcoming so it doesn't matter)
