NPCMaxwell
Suggestion number one: If a character without the fitting ability is told to "use" a character exclusive item, a (funny) animation is played, indicating they fail to use it properly (together with their usual examination quote for the item). Simple example: If non-Maxwells attempt to use the Codex Umbra, a shadow hand will reach out of the book, making the non-Maxwell startle and quickly close the Codex Umbra again. Suggestion number two: Maybe to sooth the "forum war" on the topic of giving characters access to other characters' abilities.... There could be a rare item drop that would introduce a new "curse", maybe giving the item a timeout of being able equipped/unequipped to avoid exploitation. Simple example: A rare amulet-slot item (or an eyebone like that of chester) that when equipped / picked up swaps the special ability of the player character with those of another character. For example: A non-Wilson / non-Webber wearing the amulet will start growing Wilson's / Webber's beard. (though in this case I also suggest the beard to not disappear when the amulet is unequipped but in the case of beards only that they stay until being shaved).
