Why can't Wx-78 eat Scrap and Wire?

they're supposed to be an automata- when wx eats gears, they repair themselves, while frazzled wires and scrap would be less helpful.
perhaps the items should heal wx, but at a lower gain?

Maybe not eat scrap but use it as a healing item like salves? I mean Wx could weld it to himself for repairs or armor maybe. And wires are trinkets so idk. Maybe in their skilltree they can get some sort of workshop like fallout power armor stations, where they can upgrade themselves like old wx using scrap, gears, wires other items.

Scrap used to be edible by him but they removed it.

In Beta WX78 used to can eat scrap but now it cannot.
