Shield of Terror buff?

Recommended Posts

The Battle Rond's a straight upgrade to the Shield of Terror.

The Rond can block, buffs your damage after blocking, does the same amount of base damage, has more durability (though it does go down by a marginally larger amount per use as a weapon so it kind of evens out), and protects more (albeit only by 5%). While it's true that the Battle Rond can't be fed to repair it, that's not really a big downside since it's made with stuff that's easy to farm and amass - just shave one beefalo herd and give the Pig King the wires you get from ruins rushing/Moon Quay rushing/just feeding some monster meat to a bird for eggs to give to him, and you'll never worry about running out of materials to replace it again.

The only advantage the Shield of Terror has, aside from being equippable by everyone, is that it counts towards buffing Maxwell's minions, but that's an upside that only applies to a single character who has better options. Why is it okay that Wigfrid gets a post-raid boss craftable for cheap that's actually better than the one you have to earn, but Woodie's wooden walking sticks have to be a downgrade to walking canes (since they're 10% slower and eventually break)? I think it's Woodie's skill tree that got it right - character-specific items should be at best side-grades and at worst budget versions of normal items, not replacements for them.

I propose giving the Shield of Terror a quick dash, just like the Shield of Cthulhu from Terraria (which it's based on), that lets you dodge an attack if timed properly. It'd give the Shield of Terror similar utility in combat to the Battle Rond without just making it a copy of it, and it'd give a new combat mobility option to every character. Nothing else about it needs to change, although a buff to make its durability match the Battle Rond's would be nice too.
