Ideas for Walter's skill tree

Recommended Posts

I think that Walter is one of the best pretendents to take the best skill tree. He's Woby, slingshot and even tent could take great upgrades with skills. For example Woby will do Walter's commands, will dig and tount enemies, or will stop dismount owner when she is not hungry and etc

Small Woby Perk 1- Sniff out Hunt Trails and run off barking in the Direction of the next set of prints, Small Woby perk 2- Increased Hunting skills in being able to “Dig” into the dirt like a Shovel for things like digging up tombstones, or fishing rabbits out of their collapsed sinkholes. Small Woby Perk 3- Increased Storage Space size.

Big Woby perk 1- Longer large form duration. Big Woby perk 2- Faster movement speed buff, Big Woby Perk 3- Combat Bravery (no longer bucks Walter and runs away from combat)

Slingshot perks- Faster Firing speed, longer firing range, increased damage per round.

Lunar/shadow Affinity- special pelt rounds, special Large Woby perks.

Boyscouts Honor- Walter gains more sanity & health from his special scout kit craftables (campers tent, pioneer hat)

Friends of the Enemy- When Walter sides with Wagstaff Woby being a large dog and all won’t be targeted by Hound Waves. When sided with Charlie- Walter can craft a special scout dark magic food treat that once eaten, will ward away depth worms.

And that’s about all I got on ideas for him cause Walters entire playstyle sucks & not even skill trees are going to fix that. I will forever hate him just for his annoying repetitive campfire stories.

your ideas suck and don't make any sense tbh, everything aside from big woby perks and small woby storage perk would be useless and those are just stat increases, with other small woby perks being useless, stats from pioneer hat being nonsensical because it doesn't give stats iirc and the rest is unfitting, nonsensical and mostly just stat increases

Your quick to criticize, but you don’t even provide your own suggestions on what his skill tree should be, I assume that the reason why is because Walter is a perk blender of can’t make up his mind what he wants his gameplay to be. Sure there’s the slingshot, but it sucks.

Woby doesn't need a separate skill tree for both her small and big form, that's just too much focus on one aspect of Walter. Just have his slingshot, Woby, and scout things as his three branches.

The slingshot is... hotly contested on whether or not it's good. Personally I think that there are situations where it can be good, even in its current state, but those situations tend to be few. Like, it's way better than a spear against tentacles, but marble rounds are worse than a walking cane if you're against Hounds. Some of the more glaring issues are its slow attack speed (especially that first shot, which you have to redo the animation for if you move, and Walter wants to not get hit quite a lot!) and that it takes too much time to get enough of his stronger ammo. The damage itself doesn't need to be raised, except maybe for the slowing rounds. Why do those do only 17 damage? They need tier 2 magic and a purple gem, come on.

Woby can be given some tricks to do. One I suggested someplace else was to let her jump over things like walls and small gaps while you're riding her. Being able to see her hunger would also be really nice since at the moment her speed decreases so little that I can't tell when she's hungry until she's at her slowest. I don't think she needs more space since she's already a permanent free backpack*, and extra speed isn't too necessary unless it suddenly becomes Very Important to race WX.

It could be neat if there was a perk to make him sleep faster. Drains hunger a bit more per second but health and sanity go up even faster. I kinda also want a perk that makes it viable for him to put down trees near each boss for that extra bit of sanity, but that seems like a big stretch to make happen. Finally, it could be really good if he could craft a healing item that recovers both health and sanity, and maybe he can apply those faster than other survivors do. Tents and nonperishable healing items seem like they're ok at best but he could make them really good.

*Who am I kidding, inventory management is my greatest enemy in every game ever made. I don't think he needs it for balance reasons but sure go ahead and let Woby carry everything in the Constant.

It technically does provide 2 sanity/minute, but Walter is immune to it and it's not as good as a Top Hat if you were to give it to a different character.
