Overall direction: don't like mega-bosses and super characters

Maybe I just need to go back to DS instead of DST.  I played DST for 1,600 hours and never fought Crab King and never fought Fuelweaver in a real game (though I trained for Fuelweaver in a testing world).  I really like the survival aspect and having just regular characters.  I liked running in circles around one baddie in order to get another baddie to aggro on them and let them kill each other.  It's clever and funny.  I like playing Walter and other characters that aren't superheroes.  Walter's just a kid with a cute dog.  It's really sweet.  That sweetness with the horror of the rest of the game is what drew me in and kept me for so long.

I've been watching videos of the new bosses and new skill trees.  Wilson's skill tree matches my sensibilities, because it allows different ways of achieving non-combat goals.  Woodie... I guess I'm OK with the moose because I like Woodie so much.

Wigfrid is already such a battle-oriented character and now she gets a sheild that's even better than the one you get from killing the Twins of Terror?  The song scroll case is a great idea.  I'm so jealous that she gets beefalo taming!

This is getting into a confused rant here.  My point is that I love your game and love some of the new stuff, but I'm not crazy about the bigger bosses and megafighting superhero stuff.  Probably because I mostly play solo.  When I have played multiplayer, a lot of it is people starting a server, playing for a few hours, doing one boss fight, and abandoning the world.  In the longer worlds, Bee Queen usually takes about 30 seconds.  So I don't see how well the bosses work multiplayer.  I still think their difficulty should scale with the number of players, but that's another topic.

Which is why I'm probably not your target audience and should go back to playing DS instead.  Thanks for listening!

I actually went back to DS and I'm having a really good experience there.  I miss the new crafting menus, Walter, boats, and the deciduous biome, but love the old-style farms so far.  I even like that trees don't burn so long - environmental destruction has far too many payoffs in DST.

I love your game and a lot of the new material.  Just the superhero stuff isn't to my liking.  There are so many other games I can play to get that if I want it.

OK, so there are a lot of improvements in DST over DS.  And, if I don't defeat Celestial Champion, I'm not going to have to deal with any of the new awful super-bosses.  Wigfrid mains can have their fun without ruining my day.

I guess what I want is slightly bigger rewards for some of the little things that aren't boss fights.  Stuff you could buff:

  • Polly Roger's Hat is hilariously bizarre and could be buffed into a slightly better reward for playing in a less pugnacious style.
  • Seafood Gumbo (or another dish that requires something from the caves and something from the ocean) is a reward for exploring both the ocean and the caves that could be buffed slightly.

Stuff you do great already:

  • Pearl's labors are a prime example of rewarding non-fighting play and I really appreciate that you added the Sawhorse.
  • The Moonstone event is another great example
  • Growing Above Average Tree Trunks to make summer bearable using Glommer goop, boats, the Pinch 'n Winch, and a beefalo (to transport the Knobbly Tree Nuts) - that's awesome!

You guys know better than I what to buff and how.  Just giving my perspective.  I'm very curious about this new ice shark thing!
