Darkest dungeon crossover?

Recommended Posts

Is it time for a crossover with darkest dungeon? We can have the 'thing from the stars' roam in the constant and bring doom upon our world.

Wagstaff wouldn't mind making a deal with the ancestor for opening a gate in the constant.

After all moral was never a problem for either of them.

It would be awesome if we can get the new warg as a boss for the weald, the new bearger for the warrens and the new deerclops for the ruins.

Of course the above is meant as a suggestion for the darkest dungeon. I just wrote it here as reminder if the dream ever comes true.

Don't Starve is a survival sandbox with a simple premise but brutal execution. Just don't starve to death, and try to survive. The game punishes you for not being familiar with the game in the beginning, but urges you forward to keep surviving as you invent strategies to deal with the new dangers that arise as you make it deeper and deeper into the game. As you become more comfortable surviving, you eventually find your own strategy for surviving indefinitely, no longer being threatened by the dangers of each season.

As you might start focusing on defeating the giants of the Constant, you start looking for ways to progress as quickly as possible and unlock the content in the final stages of the game. You're lead to think that you know everything about the game at this point, but just as you defeat one of the "final" bosses for once, you acquire the option to change the world forever, increasing the difficulty to an unthinkable level for the sake of "progress."

The cycle repeats itself, and once again you're getting bodied by the world for just trying to survive. And honestly, that's pretty rad. I had a hard time coming to like what the new updates have entailed. I guess I wanted more of the focus on things that players can "rush" and acquire very early in the game; I also wanted some work arounds for seasonally locked resources like mosling down feathers and ice. However, there's something so appealing about being able to "press the button" that starts the END OF THE WORLD just because you're curious about what lies beyond.

Darkest Dungeon sounds pretty similar to Don't Starve in terms of basic themes. Unstoppable, unknowable entities that encroach upon your world and all you can do is try and survive without succumbing to the darkness and your insanity. In theory, this is pretty much what DST is marching up to so a crossover almost sounds idealistic for the direction of the game. I don't think that's what the developers want though. If I had to guess, the devteam wants to approach this type of stuff in their own way, with their own creative direction.

You could almost say that Fear and Hunger 2: Termina would be a good crossover for DST, but just like with Darkest Dungeon, there is a core element that DST just seems to lack or not approach in the same way. Don't Starve doesn't take itself seriously in many aspects. All of the weapons seem unconventional. No swords, no shields, no plate armors. To defend yourself, you wear log suits and football helmets. You use spears, boomerangs, and ham bats to deal damage. Gold tools are weirdly stronger than the default tools for some godforsaken reason.

Darkest Dungeon and F&H take themselves with nearly none of that jovial, silliness that Don't Starve uses. While the former two of the three games use strong themes of violence, horror, and fear to create the oppressive atmosphere of the game whereas Don't Starve uses gameplay mechanics and the player's own ignorance to make the game seem uncompromisingly difficult.
