The locally stored archive has been reset, but how can I recover the original files?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm sorry to disturb you, but here's the situation: my girlfriend and I were playing the multiplayer version of the game "Don't Starve," and we had an argument that led to our in-game world being reset and our save file overwritten. I'd like to recover that save file. I've already deleted the new save file that overwrote it, and I managed to restore the old save file using some methods. However, it seems like it's not working. If you could take a look and see if it's possible to recover it, I'd greatly appreciate it. I also remember some of the settings, and I can provide any other files you might need. Please, help me out, or else my girlfriend might break up with me. Thank you!!!

Assuming you've placed all the folders in the correct locations, the last few *.meta files in the Master\save\session\4CC07E14A952C74C directory have a size of 0kb. You can try deleting those (including the other files with the same names) to force the server to use the previous ones. This might fix your problem.

Hello, thank you for your response. I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by "including other files with the same name." Could you please provide more details and clarify? I tried deleting the files with the ".meta" extension and a size of 0KB as you mentioned, but it didn't work. I'm looking forward to your reply. Thanks again!

I mean the files that have the same name when ignoring the file extension.

For example 0000000114.meta.$ea, 0000000114.meta and 0000000114 having the same name at the front.

Good luck!

我的意思是忽略文件扩展名时具有相同名称的文件。

例如0000000114.meta.$ea0000000114.meta0000000114前面有相同的名称。

祝你好运!

I appreciate your response. I followed the steps you mentioned, deleted the relevant files, but the game still doesn't display the save file. Is there any other way to recover it? Regardless of whether there is or not, thank you for your response!

I did try loading up your cluster in my server (without mods, since I don't wanna clutter up my server with mods I don't use), and figured out that my server didn't like the session ID for some reason. So my editing the shardindex files

/Master/save/shardindex
and
/Caves/save/shardindex

to use your old Shardindexes respectively

Master:
4CC07E14A952C74C

Caves:
07775B146C12BC8F

Which should look something like this:

I was able to get the server to at least try to load the previous save files.

Sadly for me it crashed saying that the save data was empty on load

My hope would be that your save files need one or more of the mods you've been using to be properly loaded, so you should give this a try as well.

If your server also has the same issues (with your mods properly loaded), you might have to see if there's some more data in your Backup, or you'd be out of luck, as the save files might be corrupted for whatever reason. (Maybe a dev might be able to rescue something here?)

Good Luck!
