My take on a Winona Skill tree

Recommended Posts

I saw a new Winona skill tree post here, and it reminded me of an old idea I had for Winona before skill trees, so I made it into a skill tree!

trying to give her more purpose in life then being a swap character. catapults can still be used by other characters, but porta catapult, and gem powers, including spotlights gems, do not work with other characters. think that's a good compromise.

The program i was using limited me to this amount of boxes so the rest is down here.

Crafting:

Mend Armor:

you can combine armor to repair them.

Better mend armor and weapons:

you can mend armor and weapons with trusty tape, each tape = 10%

Catapult Wheel

you can control a group of catapults yourself, but you can't move while controlling. 2 gears, 10 silk, 1 steering wheel kit, 5 trusty tape.

Hardhat:

enemy projectiles (non boss) can't hurt you while wearing it, gives 50% protection otherwise, plus immunity to earthquakes. 2 boards, 3 cutstone, 4 trusty tape, 2 waxpaper (for the iconic yellow Colar) 566 durability.

Catapult gem power edit:

you can turn on and off the effects by right clicking the generator.

22 skills with 15 insight.

Give me your feedback for improvement!

I really like your ideas of new skills for Winona, as well that the fact that you formatted it into your own skill tree in a program to visualise it. Really cool! (Also, do you like Saladmanders too?)

Bulk crafting sounds like an amazing thing to use. Would it have a cost like when Winona hasn’t crafted in a while she loses hunger or not? I’d definitely use it either way.

Structure upgrader sounds a little more specific for a task. Though it is good for making upgraded buildings, after that, what are they going to do? It doesn’t provide anymore help after you’ve upgraded the station. I propose to make the upgraded buildings provide a benefit like sanity regen, faster crafting for everyone or can become socketed with gems to provide benefits. Just some ideas you may use.

Mending weapons sounds quite nice too at first however you’re still going to have the same durability of 2 items, just in one inventory slots when you combine them both. (Unless they both fully restore the weapons to max & don’t combine durability? Example, 10% durability +  10% durability doesn’t make 20% durability but 100% durability. Either way, it only creates 1 extra weapon to use) I think the skill should also be able to combine lower tiered items to higher tier items to fully restore durability as well (combine 1 spear with a low durability ham bat to get full durability ham bat).

Spotlights being able to influence temperature sounds really good as well, you get your own refuelable star caller staff or moon caller staff that turns off automatically at day. However, if a spotlight is fitted with a blue gem, shouldn’t have the opposite being turning off at night when it is summer? Other than that, this skill is good all year round.

Side note, was my iteration of Winona’s skilltree the one which inspired you to create yours? No need to answer just wondering. If so I’m very happy I inspired to someone else to make a full skilltree as well!

Anyways, Gem powers 1 to 3 is really creative too. Using gems to power your creations as well is something DST should implement more usually. I like all the skills (and the fact that now Catapults are also a chest) but I feel the purple gem could be better. Why scare the creatures when you could freeze them, burn them or give your catapult 3x the health! What if the creature hit could become marked for death when a purple gem powered catapult hits them, which will make all aggroable creatures target it and it takes 10% more damage?

Also, can I put multiple GEMerators with different gems socketed to give multiple powers? Or multiple gems in the same GEMerator? I want to see a freezing, burning, scaring catapult ball launched by a chest catapult with better range and 3x the health.

Now, the skill locked behind Ancient Fuelweaver is extremely useful. Technically, you won’t need to worry about your catapults durability any longer which is great for time management. Would the knock back of the catapult coming back destroy structures around it? Also, I didn’t know Wagstaff was Winona’s old boss?

But anyways, this skilltree is great, I had some questions and if you could answer them that would be great. Happy to see another person create an amazing skilltree!

Yes, i do love salamanders! there very cute :wilson_love:

Bulk crafting would have been the same crafting speed, but the slower crafting speed and hunger cost makes sense.

For mending weapons, it would be 10%+10%= 20% or 20%+50%= 70 as it would help with the random 3% spears and dark swords together.

but a better idea I thought of was maybe you can add 2 weapons into a 200% weapon, like 2 100% spears into 1, or a 50% spear and 100% spear=150% spear.

Also that's the level 1 skill, The second skill allows you to use trusty tape to restore durability, thought level 1 mending would be too good if it 100% restores durability every single time no matter the durability of the other items.

haven't thought of Structure upgrader like that, I think putting gems in it would be too much complexity, and she already gobbles up gems with gem-erators and "gem powers" if I add anymore gem related things, instead of Winona being a "rock gobbler" she would be the "gem gobbler" a idea could be that, being near Winnona built research structures give a extra boost to first prototyping items 20 instead of 15 sanity, along with the Structure Upgrader skill.

I'm glad you liked the gem powers! I want specific gem powers to correlate with the gem color abilities, since purple gems seem to cause lighting, perhaps it could make catapults deal electric damage? feel it would be more practical than your mark for death idea as she has no followers then pigs and Bunnymen

For the blue gem spotlight, it should have configurable options!

as in:

Turn off during day and on a night.

turn off a night and on at day.

always stay on.

You did inspire me @Saladmanders :wilson_lightbulb:

And @JustExo from this video he made recently (7) A Bite Sized Update (and talking about Winona) |Don't Starve Cult of the Lamb crossover| - YouTube

Only 1 gem can be used at a time, but there is a que on what power it uses by which gem its using for fuel at the time, as gem-erators have 3 slots on It. on the skill tree, gem powers 1 said this. With different GEM- rators surrounding a catapult, i have not thought of that, ty for pointing that out! I'm not sure if that would be OP or not, perhaps a compromise could be it can only use 3 different powers MAX if a catapult is surrounded by 3 GEM- rators, to give way to different formations other then the 5 and 6 circle.

The knockback of the fuel weaver perk would not destroy structures, it would be like bright shades thorns. (since Catapults are a structure, it would destroy it self over, and over, and over again, plus destruction if it did that)

Are portabke catapults able to be picked up in your inventory?

Yup, its in the name, portable, did you think you carried it like a shadow piece?

Should of clarified, I guess.

Anyway, NEW IDEAS

Grow bulb: at night you can configure a spotlight to point at farm plants, acerating growth and letting them grow at night.

Repair tools: you can combine tools up to 200% and use trusty tape for 10% durability.

Hard Worker: when using a tool that has over 100% durability, it does double "damage" to the tree, rock, etc. consumes 1.50% of durability then the normal 1%

Yay! Me too! when I first started DST I wondered why I couldn't find them even though I set them to tons.
I'm very happy you answered my questions & even replied in the first place.

I like the new Mending method & the bonus ability 'Hard Worker' it gives. The skill would definitely be used more & incentivise mending tools instead of making more & more. Also, I find the improved Structure Upgrader to be much better now, even if it's only 5 more sanity for every prototype

The Mark For Death will be affected by players do, so multiplayer fights will be even easier. And, the Mark For Death will make other mobs in the area angry even if they're not followers. But I see what you mean as it requires some luck & preparation to set up if you don't have friends playing.

Aww, I was hoping I would get a super catapult. Still good though!

I feel like this could still encourage Character Switching Off Winona? Only by a little amount & only you'll only be asked by Wormwood mains in the Winter to build them anyways.

Thanks!
