Warly Rework Ideas

Recommended Posts

I saw a lot of ideas on Warly's skilltrees and thought it neat to add some of my own suggestions.

1. How to Cook for Non-humans

This section of the skilltree will focus on cooking dishes that are for beings that are not entirely human. For the playable characters, Wormwood, Webber, Wortox and WX78 would be given dishes that fit their themes. Perhaps Wormwood could crunch on some salt rock dishes, Wortox a feast of soul imbued dishes (cooked in combination with a Wortox maybe?), WX78 mechanical dishes, and Webber Monster meat related dishes like Monster Lasagna but more varied. These dishes would have varied effects, similar to dishes like the grim galette and might also ignore some of the downsides that these characters have for normal dishes. These dishes would also have effects on the creatures of the constant, like the clockworks, krampus, lunar mobs, and so on. Maybe the dishes could attract those mobs, or even tame them for a while.

2. The poissonnier

This section of the skilltree may focus on adding more dishes. Expand on fish dishes more. After all, the DST environment has lots of fishes but everyone of them just becomes the same boring fish once cooked/killed asides from the popcorn fish. Might be nice and be an incentive to fish more.

3. A shadowy recipe

This is the shadow alignment skill tree. The shadows will give Warly the knowledge and ability to cook some ancient recipes, perhaps of the era when those bug people roamed around. I am not sure what the bug people ate exactly, but I do think the moth eats thulecite so maybe something related to thulecites and nightmare fuel. After all, Grim Galette is made of nightmare fuel so it is an ingredient. I think shadow imbued dishes would be high risk and high return dishes that give great buffs but also pretty big downsides. These downsides could be mitigated through spices maybe? For instance, Warly could make a dish that increases damage taken, but increases movement speed and maybe attack speed.

4. An enlightened recipe

This is the lunar alignment skill tree. This will give lunar specific recipes from lunar materials that use stuff like a live carrat, moon moths, the stonefruits, moonshrooms and so on. For the moonshroom one, maybe give a dish that will fill one's hunger sanity and health by a lot, but will make one fall asleep instantly.

5. Full course dinner

This section of the skill tree will focus on having actual course meals. There will be a table upon which dishes can be arranged in certain order, and eaten in that order. The dishes will be seperated into appetizers, main, salad, and optional (cheese and/or dessert). The more heartier and rare the dishes are, the greater the buffs will be. Maybe something like the mandrake soup dish could give incredible buffs since currently noone will choose that over a panflute.

6. Chef's Arsenal

This section of the skill tree will focus on the tools of the trade. Maybe he will get several knives and other equipment for cooking and maybe for combat. Maybe clothing that is more fire resistant ( as cooks often have to deal with fire) or cooking pots that actually require skill but will give more and better dishes based on how good you cook. I do not think that the crock pot alone is actually good enough for many dishes and is a bit nonsensical. Maybe this will also add a star mechanic or something like that; A dish could have from one to three stars and the stats will be improved in relation to the number of stars.

I think overall that Warly's skilltrees should introduce new dishes whose downsides could be managed with other dishes or spices in his current arsenal. After all, a chef does not simply make one meal but a course. The overall order and composition of the dishes should be important as well. I also think there should be emphasis on how he loves to cook for others, just like he did for his mother. I think he will research on how to cook for his inhuman friends as well.
