ShadowbirdRH
Docks are great not just for off-shore operations, but also for setting up transit across land gaps, without either using a Lazy Explorer or being Wortox. What about underground though? Might be an idea worth considering to be able to build suspension bridges, that can function underground, and if used above ground, can allow boats to travel underneath. I know this is already some fairly OP territory, so here's a few restrictions. 1: must be built in stages; an anchor point must be built at each side before the ropes are run and tied, again at both sides, before the segments can at last be laid. 2: can be no longer than 3 turf segments long and must be built in a straight line. 3: has health, can be damaged by falling debris during earthquakes, or attacked to deliberately destroy, or repaired with its constituent materials, possibly with other materials. Ideally, the nature of its construction would not only restrict it from being used to access areas that are otherwise inaccessible, since you need to build from both sides, but also be much easier to accomplish with the help of another player, making it a better fit for the multiplayer nature of DST. bloopah
With all of the end-game stuff being developed, I really hope for Klei to add a way to completely terraform the world. Not just Turfs, but also being able to change the ground itself and do something like create new islands and build a bridge to Moon Quay or even the Atrium. It would be a nice reward for killing every horror that's lurking in the Constant. ShadowbirdRH
Back before docks and the ancient turf recipes were released, I suggested a system of land blasting charges which would destroy single chunks of land (but were crafted in groups of 5), and "land seeds" that would create a field of suction that drew in any items around it, and upon consuming enough items, would grow into a 5 tile land mass, with one unit of turf as part of its crafting materials that would then cover all 5 spaces of the new land it would create. The idea was to solve not only for easy access across land gaps, but also rare, nonrenewable turf like in the ancient archive, and large surpluses of useless junk items. Docks and being able to learn to craft ancient turfs made the above ideas mostly redundant, and just as such, I'm not all that picky if Klei thinks a different approach to land gaps in caves would be more suitable, or if it would be best to leave as an obstacle that players would have to continue working around, I mostly just wanted to get the idea out of my head.
