I Need Some Help with Don't Starve Lore Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was hoping to get some help regarding Don't Starve Lore and I thought the collective knowledge of the Forums might be a good place to get some details/assistance. Does anyone have information on following two questions?

1. Do we know how Maxwell came into possession of the Codex Umbra?

2. Do we know how any of following characters came to be in the Constant: Willow, Wendy, Wolfgang, Woodie, WX, or Warly?

Any details you can share are appreciated, thanks for your time and help!

Sincerely,
MrWorm

SmallBird... after rewatching the WX animated short, would one say they entered the Constant from a mental breakdown of sorts? Or how would you interpret it? No rush on reply, if or when it's convenient.

And then I'm still feeling clueless on Wolfgang...

1. We don't exactly know. But it happened when William got in a train crash.

2. Wagstaff was the one who send Wx78 to the constant. That's why They hate Wagstaff.

-We still don't know about Willow. And the rest is probably got manipulated by Maxwell.

Willow - likely betrayed by Maxwell after the last deed she did for him.

Wendy - her diary says she heard Ragtime in the dreams, must've been how Max contacted her. She, of course, was offered to be reunited with Abigail.

Wolfgang - I suspect Max targeted him as one of the first because he knew about the shadows. The offer was surely the strength, but I wouldn't know what he used to make the pact.

Woodie - he had a Voxola radio in his cabin. He might have wished for his curse to be lifted.

WX-78 - Wagstaff pushed him into a portal as seen in the animation.

Warly - his gramaphone was the mean of communication with Max and the offer could've been to remove his mother's dementia.

As for the Codex... I have no idea.

We don't know how specifically, just that it came into his possession, as per the fourth William Carter puzzle and of course us seeing him use it in Wolfgang's short.

The train accident occurs either on or before August 23, 1904 since that's the date of the newspaper article informing us about the train accident.

Here's what is written on the postcard that William wrote to his brother Jack.

Jack,

The strangest thing has happened! Please discount all reports of my demise, should they reach you. I am very much alive, despite my recent misadventures. I have discovered something, a book of sorts. I have yet to decode it fully, but what little I have deciphered has opened my mind to terrifying new possibilities. I shan't say more through post - I fear it may attract unwanted attention. All will be explained when we meet. I shall continue west forthwith!

-William

Willow:

We don't know how specifically, but her compendium tells us more about how she felt about entering the constant and it sounds like she willingly entered. There is also her showing up Wickerbottom's short, meaning at minimum she disappeared after March 29, 1911 since that's when the NYS Public Library burnt down

Willow always regarded being brought to The Constant as a new beginning. It allowed her to leave everything behind, after all.

Wendy

Wendy's compendium tells us how she was brought to the constant and how her family tried all sorts of other magic (like seances and stuff) that didn't work to bring Abigail back.

Wendy's tale of woe began with the untimely loss of her dear sister Abigail. Unable to accept the thought of life without her twin, Wendy began turning to the occult in the hopes of finding some way to communicate with the other side. After much trial and error, séance candles burned down to nubs and spirit boards thrown away in frustration, Wendy was nearly ready to give up and fall into despair... until finally, there was a sign. A ragtime tune might seem like a strange message to send from the great beyond, but Wendy was desperate to grab hold of anything that might bring her closer to her sister. And sure enough, a voice would soon tell her exactly what she needed to do.

What we also know is that thanks to this vignette, she disappears on or after April 16, 1914 as Wendy says this:

I keep hearing strange music when I dream... the same song repeating over and over... is it you Abigail? Are you trying to tell me something?

Wolfgang

We don't have any concrete evidence on how Wolfgang entered the constant. We only really know what we saw from his short and that he was in the military from the flavor text from his vignette that came during the Forge, but again we never really learned how he entered the constant. I don't think his quotes reveal much either (I remember checking them before but I could be wrong. It's a lot of lines :p)

Whether in troupes or troops, Wolfgang has always thrived on the spirit of camaraderie. He considers the day he joined the survivors to be the moment his luck finally took a turn for the better.

Woodie

We can assume he entered the constant via a Voxola radio thanks to Walter's short (and Walter's quote for the beaver kitchy idol confirms that he was indeed looking for Mr. Werebeaver). We also learn that he had his werebeaver powers in the real world too thanks to that short.

WX-78

I have an analysis video for WX's short, but simply put, WX and Wagstaff were working together to create a portal to the constant (and human WX uploaded themselves into the WX robot body), but WX and Wagstaff had a falling out with each other and Wagstaff pushed him into the constant.

Warly

Warly's compendium tells us more of who he is and at the end, tells us that it was Maxwell that brought him to the constant (since we've always been shown that Maxwell's communicates through the Voxola devices, like in Wilson's short, Wigfrid's short, having a radio voice in Wicker's short, etc.).

Warly left a promising career as a sous chef in Paris to return home and care for his aging mother Angeline, whose memory had begun to deteriorate. His world soon revolved around telling her stories about her life, playing her favorite music, cooking the recipes she had taught him when he was young... all in the hopes of catching that spark of recognition in her eyes. As time went on and Angeline's moments of clarity became fewer and farther in-between, Warly became more desperate, willing to try anything to bring back his beloved Maman... That was when he first started hearing the voice on the radio.
