Farsight
With the devs announcing that they're going to focus on smaller + more regular updates, there's hopefully a chance to tweak and improve some areas that don't quite work as well as they could. With that in mind... PACU! The biggest problem to me is that the "best" way to ranch Pacu is to starve hundreds of them... to get meat. So, so weird. And it means sacrificing framerate for food. Idea #1: Make tame Pacu require feeding to produce eggs and meat. This would eliminate the starvation Million-Pacu-Ranch. Idea #2: Make regular Pacu only eat algae. This would make them the "polluted dirt production pacu", and stop them from poaching seeds before we can sweep them. Idea #2a: Add Algae as a hydroponic farm plant. Must be submerged in water and consumes water. Provides an alternative path to algae besides slime. Idea #3: Make Tropical Pacu only eat seeds, and produce fewer eggs. This would make them the "Decor and garbage disposal Pacu", less suited for meat production. Idea #4: Add an aquarium recreation building that can hold a fish and food that dupes can sprinkle in to feed the fish and get a morale boost. The fish inside would get a decor bonus, but would not produce eggs or meat when it dies. A perfect place for tropical pacu! Idea #5: Add a new morph: Killer Pacu! A bigger black-and-white Pacu that results when Pacu are kept in salt water. It must be fed -live Pacu- and rarely lays eggs, but produces -massively- more meat when it dies. Designed to be the best food source Pacu, it can feed many, many dupes per fish, allowing for smaller ranches that don't kill the frame rate. I think these changes/additions would make Pacu a lot more fun/strategic to play with, and gain us a lot of performance.
