A glitch with my mods

I am having a problem with my mods, when I subscribe to a mod It shows up in game as workshop-########, I have read up on places that you just have to delete the folders in your mods folders, but the problem is the folders don't even show up in there. Another weird thing is when I downloaded an old version of a mod it showed up in game and in the mod folders, but the newer version did not show up in the mod folder and in game and was called workshop-######### which was unusable in game.
