ChibiStarver Posted March 3, 2022 Share Posted March 3, 2022 in DST there are a number of items that build up that you'll end up just feeding to a lureplant or burning, but I feel like in a survival game like dont starve there should be a few alternative ways to repurpose these items hound teeth - the classic "I have too much" Item, especially after you get a few houndius and stop needing to make tooth traps, I suggest adding a craft under the refine tab that will let you craft 5-10 hound teeth into 1 bone shard, I feel it should take multiple because they build up fast, especially if you have a vaarg farm (after 1 day at my farm I got more than a chest of teeth) beefalo horns - another item with not so many uses, granted you can play them for crops, but I have 6-7 herds I farm once per year and I'll never use that many horns, I suggest being able to hammer them, dropping 1-2 bone shards each (either at random or depending on durability) lavae egg - this one will take a while to build up, but I've never seen anyone hatch one other than for the pet, I have a couple ideas for what could be done with it, the first is make it count as 2 eggs in a crock pot, not a very good use for such a hard to come by item but still more useful than lureplant food, the second option is to make a new crock pot recipe that requires it that will make you immune to freezing for a while (maybe another Warly specific recipe? ) antlers - now, we already have a way to turn these into bone shards, but if your base is across the map it can be a pain to transport them all to clauses loot stash my suggestion here is to either make the same types stackable for easier transport or to make them hammerable so you can avoid the long trip altogether (I moved my no eyed dear herd far from klaus and the horns build up if I forget to fight him) volt goat horns - another item that can pile up too much if you make a farm, I was thinking something similar to the antlers and the hammer, except maybe add in a chance for it to electrocute you, yknow, for fun seasonal boss drops - if you have a lot of bearger pelts and deerclops eyes you may be wanting something to do with them, I was thinking make them give a lot of gold from pig king or maybe make it so you can use them for base decor, a bearger pelt rug that increases insulation when stood on perhaps? don't really have anything in mind for the eye, but i'm sure people might like this damaged items - these clog up peoples bases all the time, and it's expensive to repurpose them, my suggestion is to add a anvil of sorts that you can use to put together two of the same item and add their durabilities, now I don't really expect this one to get into the game, it's a long shot to say the least, but I might as well put the thought out there golden belts - they can help if you're really hurting for gold, but other than that they have little use, my suggestion is to make it so you can befriend pigs with them (about a day of loyalty seems balanced, but that's up to your decisions) cratered moon rocks - if you've made them and then decided you no longer want occuvigils or to mark tentipillars then you currently need to use a deconstruction staff to get the moonrock back, my suggestion is to make them hammerable (make it so the gem still shatters though) but then you can still get some resources back without wasting 20% of a green gem portal paraphernalia - some of us have been there, we accidentally made more than we need, make it hammarable for half the resources back, or make it so you can't craft a second one if the florid postern has been upgraded boss blueprints/sketches - that's a lot of effort for a bit of fire fuel, but once everyone has it learned that's all its good for, my suggestion is to simply give them a longer burn time, if you're at the point where they pile up chances are you have access to ruins gear anyway, so light shouldn't be too much of an issue, that, or perhaps make it so you can re-read a learned blueprint for a decent bit of sanity, maybe 10-30? I feel it would give a bit more use out of a pretty useless item shadow atrium - yeah, some people just farm the shadow pieces for nightmare fuel, maybe make it so it can fuel items that require nightmare fuel? (bone armor, magiluminescence, nightmare light, anything i'm forgetting) that's all I had in mind for repurposing items that can build up in long term worlds, I hope that you will see these and implement some of them, I understand a couple of these are a stretch, but I might as well shoot my shot as a final note, I have two suggestions not relating to resource repurposing houndius shootius - make them able to be moved, either by deconstruction staff or by hammering it, but make it so you need to replace the thulecite (deconstructing it would give a broken houndius, and you could repair it with thulecite like you do with the moonstone platform or spider dens as webber ) sleep darts - they use bee stingers, they should do extra damage to walter in pvp, this could also balance him in pvp, since on woby with a slingshot he's very powerful thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope that these changes can be implemented into the game, I've tried to make them give small returns to keep these items as a (oh, I have spare? lets repurpose it" and not "I should intentionally farm this item for its repurposed value" Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/137925-certain-items-build-up-too-much-i-have-some-ideas-to-make-them-more-useful/ Share on other sites More sharing options...

Rovyy800 Posted March 3, 2022 Share Posted March 3, 2022 make darts that deal extra damage to walter? what the heck why how is that good game design to give a character a downside in pvp and only one character too like wtf. these are many qol changes for like very late endgame but i guess its better to farm horns that deconstructing fuelweaver drops for bones. maybe for the repair mechanic you talked about what if winona could repair items or combine them, that way people actually play her. ChibiStarver Posted March 3, 2022 Author Share Posted March 3, 2022 1 minute ago, Rovyy800 said: make darts that deal extra damage to walter? what the heck why how is that good game design to give a character a downside in pvp and only one character too like wtf. these are many qol changes for like very late endgame but i guess its better to farm horns that deconstructing fuelweaver drops for bones. maybe for the repair mechanic you talked about what if winona could repair items or combine them, that way people actually play her. walter has the most reliable ranged pvp in the game, and ranged pvp>close pvp by a lot, making him take extra damage from them would add a counter, since if the walter manages to domesticate a beefalo they become immune to the buck when hit downside, making them seriously op, and besides, it wouldn't be that much extra damage, walter takes 10 extra damage from bees, so make the sleep darts do 10 damage to him, he's still doing more than double that with even just gold rounds, as someone who plays walter about 50% of the time I play pvp, I honestly thinks he needs a counter, also blow and electric darts deal 100 and 90-150 damage respectively, making them way better for damage in longer pvp worlds, but there should be a way to counter him earlier, hence the sleep darts as for the qol changes for late game, yeah I don't really like deconstructing FW drops, they don't really give enough stuff to make it worth doing unless you've been killing him every time the gateway respawns, IMO the bone armor and helm should each drop a fossil fragment to make them renewable but 20 bone shards for a FW kill is not the most worth it IMO maybe it could be a winona only thing, don't get me wrong I love playing as her (and seeing as i'm undertaking my first megabase, being able to craft all those rocky turf, boards, and cobblestone has taken a lot less time with her) but what I don't like is the fact her quick craft is always on when your playing, I like to fill up my hunger then forget it for the next 20 minutes, but with her I need to regularly eat, I wish there was a way to toggle the quick crafting (crafting bulk items at once uses less hunger but when I'm on the move and gotta re-craft a bundle or crafting at the pseudoscience station I just don't need the extra speed Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/137925-certain-items-build-up-too-much-i-have-some-ideas-to-make-them-more-useful/#findComment-1544525 Share on other sites More sharing options...
Rovyy800 Posted March 3, 2022 Share Posted March 3, 2022 dont starve pvp is not getting balanced by the devs because: panflute exists stunlocking the massive amount of healing you can have on you but it still just seems like bad game design to have a character be countered by one specific random thing... wait a ******* minute thats just walters character attributes! you win this round. yes we need easier bone collection methods than killing THE GAMES FINAL BOSS or dying a bunch. winona could really use anything to make her more interesting to play and not just one of those accursed swap characters. maybe she can fix up ANY item once or twice (armor, amulets, boss drops) that way it extends the items lifetime while not making it overpowered. however it has to be an actual character ability and not just with tape cuz then character switching will still continue as is.
