Automate Coal Gens running when Natural Gas Gens are empty

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I have a power set up, where I have smart batteries hooked up to natural gas generators which power my entire base. But when there is no more gas, I have backup coal generators. Is there a way to automate it, so that the coal generators only generate power when the natural gas generators are down?

I'm fairly new to automation, and I've been playing around with a wattage sensor, but I can't seem to find a solution for it.

If anyone have any ideas I have super appreciate it! :D

Haha, I found a way around. With an automation wire I hooked the smart batteries to an And Gate, and a wattage sensor to the same And Gate. The wattage sensor I set to Below 0. The output of the And Gate I hooked to Buffer Gate which is hooked up to the Coal Generators.

This way seems quite crude, but it works. If anyone has a more elegant solution please share ^___^

I just use separate smart batteries. The low thershold for nat gas gens is set up higher than for the coal gens. Lets say 50% for nat gas and 10% for coal. This way coal gens won`t turn on unless the nat gas gens fail to keep the battery above 50% which would ahppen when there is no more gas or i build too many aquantuners.
