Upgrading Ubuntu OS of a dedicated server

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I would like to ask some question about upgrading the operating system of the dedicated server. Right now, I am using LUBUNTU (version 19) to run Don't Starve Together Dedicated Server. I also disable all the GUI for the sake of performance. However, this version of Ubuntu is not LTS (Long Term Support) and the newest LTS version was just released recently. I am very keen on upgrading this to the newer LTS version since it is going to be more stable. What I am worried the most now is that it will affect the data in the game somehow. Last time I made an upgrade from 18 to 19, I could not start the server anymore (I remember it said "server will not start" in the log file for some reason, but it was a while ago so I did not remember that exactly). I do not want this to happen anymore since I have got a world I have been playing with my friends for so long. So it would be great if I can any one of you have got an experience in upgrading Ubuntu OS and still have the server runs perfectly after that. It would also be very nice if you can kindly guide me how to do this and how to make sure all the files will be alright.

Thank you so much for all of your helps in advance. I really appreciate the time you spend to help me!

Best regards,

Tang
