Is rearranging Z-order possible yet?

Hey, gang! Long time no see. I'm taking another stab at my third original character mod, and I was wondering if it's possible to change the Z-order of items? Specifically, I want a hair file to show behind the body.

I've poked around and searched as many threads as I could on the issue. In short, it seems it's impossible because of the way DST's animations work.. but these were threads from 2015, so I was wondering if there was any progress on projects aiming to help achieve this?

It's not a total loss as it's just for a ponytail on the character, but I thought I'd ask the forums before giving up on it too fast. Thank you in advance!
