Disappearing Ancient Key

The Ancient Key on my world mysteriously disappeared. We had left it next to the sinkhole exit to our base. I'm not entirely sure when it disappeared, since most of us didn't pay attention to it day to day, but when we were planning to set up Fuelweaver, we had noticed it gone.

I tried using the Medallion to bring it up on the map, but neither I nor two of my other friends find it on the map. We dug up and killed every Moleworm in the vicinity with no luck.

I don't know if the Great Depths Worm could potentially eat the Ancient Key, but one did attack our underground base at one point. Outside of it, though, it almost feels like the Ancient Key flat out despawned.
