It's intended, happens on pc too.

You can fool it's aiming by initially standing between it and the center, and then starting to rotate it away to an edge after it starts the dash (the animation before the dash, not after it already starts flying and moving).

Alternatively, with high enough dps you could kill it before it takes up the entire arena even if you don't try to fool it's aiming, although then you'd probably need to use a planar weapon and a hat boosting it e.g. shadow reaper + void cowl.
